Hey guys
I wanted to add some DoD skins but i cant figure out how
i choose the smilodon skins he made for realism once but they wont work i put them into C:.... common day of defeat dod custom
anything i did wrong or what could help ?

Try this...

C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Day of Defeat Source\dod\

Now the installation for skins is a bit different here. Inside the "dod" folder, there is a folder called "custom". Inside that "custom" folder, you have to create a new folder called: "my_custom_stuff"

After that, drag all the "materials" "models" "maps" "resource" "scripts" or "sound" folders into that "my_custom_stuff" folder.

You should note that eGO servers run sv_pure 1 which could block a lot of your custom content, I think player models are one of them.

sv_pure 2 blocks client content and only uses Steam files

sv_pure 1 allows all "white listed files" on the client side to run

Player models aren't whitelisted so you'd only get custom weapons but default player models.

Ive never had an issue running custom models on any ego server. I ran Smilodons models for quite awhile without issue.

sv_pure is definitely blocking player models, I don't know how Silent got it to work.

Weapons work just fine though.

something strange happened i had the new chat box and on Axis the first person changed but all the other teammates and allies still had the normal skins and the guns didnt change either ....

Weapons should always work on eGO servers, must be a problem with the weapons or you're putting them in the wrong directory.

Where, exactly, are you putting them?

I recently changed the sounds to my guns.

the /custom/my_custom_stuff is correct, i think it can actually be anything but the nested directories have to be exact for the game to understand. My sounds only worked after I had them in the /sound/weapons directory.

so /custom/my_custom_stuff/sound/weapons/**all .wav **

Silent, do those player models still work? I know that eGO just switched to using a whitelist file in April/May. Veelo is right, those player models will be blocked to prevent players from using extremely bright player models (often referred to as "chams" by the wrong people).

Exactly!

From the whitelist file (which you can view by typing "sv_pure" in your console on eGO servers):

models\... trusted_source
materials\... trusted_source
models\weapons\... any

The first line means that any file in the model directory will be vanilla or stock. The second line means the same thing. The third line indicates an exception in the models folder, allowing custom weapon skins. The location for custom player skins would be "\materials\models\player" I believe. Since all sub-directories and files in the materials are set to stock and there is not an exception listed for "\materials\models\player", you will not be able to have custom player skins.

You should look at the whitelist file to see which custom files will be permitted on the server. If you don't understand the whitelist file, you can always try to install your custom content and log into the server. You will know which files work immediately.
