To say the least, July was a month of accomplishment: I laid in bed (like a boss), missed my ex (like a boss), knifed some commies (like a boss), and successfully procrastinated on my summer reading for another month...like a boss?
Though I wouldn't want to downplay any of the aforementioned successes, I would genuinely like to congratulate each and every member of the Battlefield Division on propelling the All Pop server to position eight on GameTracker, and even after it crashed and dropped out of place, the members' dedication to keeping it full and adminned at all times. Furthermore, last month we placed third, yes, THIRD in number of recruits for all of eGO with a whopping total of 35, one of our best months of 2013. For a division that up until recently struggled to even fill one server, you are kicking some freaking A, and I, as your Recruiting Coordinator, couldn't be more proud to see this success, a success which many of you should see paying off soon; stay posted.
To top everything off, the cherry on the ice cream comes with this month's recruiting numbers. Thus far, in the first week of the month, we have out-recruited every other division in eGO, carrying a total of 18 recruits, double the number of the second-place division. If we can continue at this pace, we could potentially end up with upwards of DOUBLE the number of recruits we had last month, something I would crash the Little Bird to see (though I already do that enough..). Remember in that recent post where I was discussing the need to make leadership happy? Well, it starts with me, and you guys have given me a number of goofy grins with your recent "like-a-boss" performance successes.
Speaking of recent successes, I actually reached a genuine milestone in the past month, one not referenced in my introduction: 75 lifetime recruits. Versus a lot of other recruiters, this may seem like a small number, but for Battlefield, I personally find it phenomenal...plus, well, I'm a little narcissistic. On the softer side of me, part of what makes Battlefield, and gaming in general, so special to me are all the people I get to meet; in real life, I clash with my friends a lot more, and I struggle with certain social anxieties and depression. Ever since I was old enough to understand gaming, the internet has been a safe haven to which I can retreat when I am absolutely, truly alone in the real world. Returning to eGO, I'd just been disgracefully removed from a very close-knit clan in Team Fortress 2, and I didn't have my hopes up for filling the void left inside my heart; once I discovered the Battlefield Division, though, I knew I had found a home. Before my eyes get damp, let me get back on track: this was about recruiting.
Out in the world, there are those who will simply keep pushing you for numbers, numbers, numbers and further productivity, and eGO's PSC has its members who will preach just that. Logistically, it makes sense, too; the organization needs numbers to justify its flow of cash dedicated to servers, as I've covered in another post. However, I will provide you with a different reason; don't recruit to get into a hall of fame, or to get a fancy position. Recruit because you want to make a difference in someone's life, and bring them into one of the most entertaining environments out there for Battlefield, and do your absolute best to keep our servers a punk-free and lovable experience for all. Although I can't speak for everyone out there, after all, there is a reason we're online playing games and not out with friends; some of us just enjoy the experience, others don't have any of those so-called friends, and some do it to be with real friends, in spirit or in person. For the most part, I think we all have fallen into one of those categories at one point or another, and I think we're mostly a blend.
For me, recruiting is a release. While I'm playing Battlefield with you guys, I can simply forget the bad things in my life and do my best to spread the good to others. Other times, you'll see me playing alone, mulling over my problems and how to fix them while wishing it was as simple as stabbing my foes in the back, figuratively or literally. Even if you don't think you're a people person, try it. You may just fall in love with it.
