The naming of a city...

I love abusing the young minds because they're so creative.

So I want to ask if you were to purchase a plot of land and wanted to create a town, what would the name be, and why? Please provide some symbolic reason. Also provide the type of area, is it tropical, tundra artic, etc.

Well, as long as we are talking fantasy's..

It would be a tropical island, named after myself... A place where the girls are young and the rum is free. Or maybe the rum is young and the girls are free..either way.

In real life, i would have a town, small village actually, in the tropics, Caribbean area, with a name, that in the local language would mean "town of the crazy's".

if its for fantasy, then it would be in the mountains, a thriving trading town in a mountain pass, dug into the mountain itself, essentially a city within a mountain. the name still eludes me on what to call it though, but yeah

lol Real life. I'm deciding on land to purchase, and if 10% in an area decides to change the area's name and found a town it's legal under Texas legislation. I'm 1 person living on a piece of land there fore I'm 10%. Could be out west, could be SouthEast part of Texas.

I am big fan of "main streets" in large towns. All local restaurants, bars/pubs, pharmacies, grocery stores, and other shops. Then surrounding your main street are all your houses and apartments. On your out skirts you have your school, post office, fire/police and hospital. Further away, unfortunately the big chain and department stores. I would want them to be a decent driving distance though so people would shop more in the town and keep the economy going but sometimes you need those silly chains. It is America, we do build and want big stupid stuff. It needs to be by a body of water like a lake or river. I am big on hiking and the outdoors however I enjoy the city as well but I would rather it be more rural with a reasonable driving distance to a larger city. Bike and pedestrian rights are big for me. I would encourage a 1 car per family limit to cut down on traffic and environment issues plus who wants to drive drunk anyway. I imagine kids in the street playing kickball and stickball. A skate park would be pretty sweet too. Some kind of movie theater too. I am just big on mom and pop kind of places so I imagine my town having its own sustainable economy. I guess that is it. I would probably name it "Neil Tyson" after Neil deGrasse Tyson an astrophysicists and a hero of mine. End of rant haha.

Jeeze, Award currently Goes to Jersey-man that was well thought out and very well explained/articulated. I'm unsure of the name but this sounds like an awesome design of a small sustainable town. I agree that mom and pop stores DESERVE a fighting chance so placing them on "main street" would be great. Btw I commend you for picking a scientist over a boxer ^_^. Good post sir/ma'am!

I would have a city around a gulf connecting to the ocean (if that makes sense), named "Taconia". It would also be surrounded by tall mountains, ideal for preventing any would-be attackers. The structures would be resembling that of ancient roman architecture and the people there would get most of their business from overseas trade - the docks always being crowded with ships. There would be beautiful gardens and fountains littering the city, and most importantly: lots of Mexican joints. The very city itself is named after the tacos produced there - the best in the world. All the restaurants there are like Chipotle x10.
