Parts for new PC

Yo kids, NewJersey here,

It has been a while since I built my own PC. Probably about 6 years or so. I switched to a Mac and never looked back. However starting last summer when I joined eGO, I miss having a PC. I currently play on my brothers PC which handles DODs fine BUT I want to get back into PC gaming and branch out to other eGO communities which this computer cannot handle. There for, I had a co-worker of mine look into some parts for a custom PC. Being that I have been out of the PC loop for so long I want to just throw this out there and see what people think about the parts he selected. I want this PC to last me at least 5 years, it is going to be mostly for gaming as I will still have my Macbook Pro for office/school work. I have a 1,000 dollar limit. Here is what he came up with. Just looking for thoughts, comments, suggestions as to other parts and or prices/sites of better deals. He gave me prices from tigerdirect.com Newegg he said was well over 1,000. Thanks.

those specs are kind of gibberish, but that said if the cpu is something like an i5 3570, the motherboard is a decent brand (gigabyte, asus, etc.), and the gpu is an amd 6870 or 7770 and above it should be a pretty good system.

I think you should consider building it yourself. Building computers is like playing with lincoln logs, as long as you don't force it there is not much that can go wrong. these days the only pitfalls are buying enough power supply and making sure your motherboard can support your ram if the ram is not 1.5v. otherwise everything can only go in one way, unless you break out the dremel tool.

I agree with everything about the new parts, however I am wondering what the current system has OS wise. If you do not have any experience with Win 8, then I would suggest getting Win 7 Home Premium. Win 8 does take a lil getting used to, so if you're willing to put a lil bit of patience into it, then thats fine. However, Win 7 HP is only $99, so something to think about.
 
Sweet. Thanks guys. This helps a lot. I think I am just going to slowly start buying parts. I wish I just go out and get it all now but I have to smart about it. Bills, school, rent. You know the drill. Thanks for the input. Can't wait to play on a decent set up, been far too long.
