Heya guys,

I have been thinking a bit about this, and I think it would be really cool if we did this. I am planning out a tournament (don't ask me about dates and times, I have no bloody idea), open to all e's, eG's, and eGO's. Basically, we will form teams of six players each (I will likely allow alternate players as long as they are identified as such). Maps will be decided by the players participating, but I will likely strike down desires for Gravel Pit or Dust Bowl (the way maps such as those play isn't quite what I feel is tournament-material). Once a map is decided, ALL tournament matches will be played on it.

The matches themselves will consist of 7 rounds maximum. Once a team wins 4, the match is over and the winning team advances. The losing team, if on the upper bracket (they haven't lost yet) is moved to the lower bracket, and if the team is already on the lower bracket, they are eliminated from the tournament.

Matches will need to be scheduled according to the availability of opposing teams. Captains should figure out ideal times for their teams and make an agreement, letting tournament refs/judges know ahead of time.

I plan to run them as double-elimination brackets, meaning that once a team loses twice, they are out.

At the present I lack the funds, but I will hopefully be able to get special-made eGO/Tournament Champion shirts to the winners (this depends on if anyone else helps me out, I'm rather strapped for cash at the present).

Anyone who is interested in this, PLEASE reply here. Do not PM me about it. All the ideas should go here for all of us to discuss, as after all, we are one clan, one big family.

I hope that if I can do this, it goes well enough that it can be run on a regular basis.

Hope it works out!

EDIT: For those really really looking forward to something, feel free to start assembling a crew!

EDIT AGAIN: Also, if you guys want to contribute something to it.... don't send your donations my way. Please send them to eGO, the clan needs the help much more than the tournament does. However, if you do have resources (ie. a server we can use, we will likely need it labelled as an eGO match server and it will be pass-protected, needs at least 12 slots), please let me know.

Del(l),

Yah, it sounded good when we were talking about it on the server earlier.... Internal Edge Gamers kinda tournament. One of the things I'd like to throw out there for consideration is teams formed around different experence levels. The six man teams might be made up of 2 e's, 2 eGs and 2 eGOs to mix things up.

Lemme know what you think,

That does, indeed, sound like a good idea. Just to keep things semi-balanced. But really, I was thinking that any group of 6 people could join together. Some people work better with some people than others. I know I do. Also, rank does not designate skill here at all. I know of e's who will just stomp on eGO's, and it also goes the other way sometimes.

As for matching teams up, I will be looking up user stats on the player stats thingy. The higher-rated teams will match other higher-rated teams, and lower-rated teams with other lower-rated teams. Hopefully this will help to level the playing field a bit, in that the lower teams gain experience from it.

The thing I still have to figure out is how I want the matches reported. If each team has a captain, the captains can report the scores back. If the winner/loser differs between captains, then I'll have to figure out just what to do.

I'm sure that everyone in this clan is honest about how they do. It's not about winning or losing, it's about having fun. I just think a little bit of competition should bring some additional spirit to the eGO players. :-)

I think it sounds like a great idea, could even create it into a bi-weekly thing. Mod the servers so they advertise the tourneys and even allow teams that aren't =(eGO)= at all. Of course this would have to take place long after the internal tournament has been active for a while and you'd have to have certain brackets and it'd be like a mini CAL but w/e. Could give the winning team reserved slots until the next tournament
The T-Shirts idea opens up a whole slew of possibilities, and while I'm new I've seen that many of the members are artistically inclined. Start selling Edge Gamers T-Shirts to help fund servers. Could have one where the graphic is a half broken bottle and you can partially read "Edge Gamers" on it or something like that. I know I'd totally pay for a shirt that had a medic using uber on a soldier or a demoman saying "I'm a black scottish cyclops." Anyways, tons of ideas to roll with and I'm getting ahead of myself but yeah.

Sweet, glad to see you guys like this idea!

Now, I don't know how often I'll be doing this, as the events will likely span several days for each one, I just thought this would be an occasional special event we could do.

As for the t-shirt prizes, depending on finding a job, it may be a while before I can do that. I just don't have that much money right now.

Even without the T-shirts, I bet this could still be fun, but I think it would be fun to hand out a little prize to the winners.

Also, unless the Council for whatever reason actually WOULD let us use one of the servers, I may have to find another server to use temporarily. That is, unfortunately, yet MORE money I would need to shell out, UNLESS I can use the VPS of a guy I co-admin servers with for BZFlag.

If anyone has anything to offer here, that would be great, and I'll see what I can do.

ROCK ON!

Any plans yet on how to do it?

Not really, all I know is it will be double-elim. I'll probably be able to put up information on my web site when I have it.

Alright, and also, if you guys have a team ready, lemme know, I'll start writing up the brackets ASAP.

Be creative with teams names, too! But make sure it follows eGO rules, no being inappropriate.
