My 550 ti just died, I put 18 satchel charges down in Arma 3 and I heard a loud pop :D haha I'm trying to decide between a 6970 and a 650 ti boost. Anyone have any other suggestions? Meant to name this thread need new gpu but my phone decided to put something else.

I'm mainly going to be playing minecraft, skyrim, arma 3 and battlefield.
 
really capt? just ask yourself the question....

and then go with the opposite! haha 650ti! but really doesnt matter imo.
 
650 has some bad reviews though, don't know if the ti was any different though, after some research and my little bitty pocketbook, I want the 660..just my thoughts...<shrug>

I'd spend the extra $100 and get a 760 if I was looking for a more budget-y card.

Unless you don't care about graphics at all, and just want to play the games, then I suppose it doesn't matter.

My 560 TIs have a hard time running Skyrim when I throw a bunch of texture mods at it (and a bunch of mods is the only way to play Skyrim). BF3 isn't as bad, I got good framerates with mostly high settings, but I couldn't say if BF4 will be much more GPU intensive.

I just got my New RIG .. its setup and ready to fire .got the 680 in there and I have to say .. hell YEAHHH .. ain't no need no overclockin' .. lol
 
Yeah I overclocked the crap out of it xD it was a cheap gpu so what... I got that sucker to be stable @ 1100 MHz. The card had already been damaged when I got it so I figured I wanted to have fun with it. The overclock was stable but that card can only handle that overclock for so long but hey it lasted like 2 years. (after doing tweaks on the pcb and replacing the capacitors) I was sad at first but I honestly think its funny. You can call me an idiot or whatever laugh in my face but the fact is I had more fun overclocking than I did actually gaming with the darn thing.
 
I like the 6970 on paper, but in benchmarks the GTX 650 ti boost beats it almost everytime but not by very much.

The 6970 has
A 75% higher pixel rate.
Higher memory bandwidth
higher Texture rate
More render output processors
Wider memory bus

The problem is that this old Cayman processor has bad driver support (typical with amd) and cannot fully utilize it's beefy hardware. (shame) Cause if it was actually able to use all of it's hardware it'd be pretty awesome.

The 6970 is on sale for 170$ btw that is why I even considered it.

The main reason for the GTX 650 ti Boost beating out the 6970 is because it's got a higher core/memory clock and the graphics processor is newer/better on the 650 ti boost. Drivers seem to favor the 650 ti boost more than the 6970 and it's amd drivers. Or is it because of something I cannot see? I'm tired and I wouldn't be suprised if I missed the real reason.

So I just repaired my 550 ti again lol. At first I thought it was the inductors but I didn't hear any Coil Whine. So I checked the capacitors and sure enough one of them was breached. Luckily I had 3 caps left that I had previously purchased. So I "attacked" (hahaha) my board with a 25W soldering iron, with desoldering braids, flux and some 91% isopropyl alcohol to clean up afterwards. Success. :D hahaha this card hates me and is most likely going to take my motherboard next time xD

I have 2 660 ti and i love em get them they are getting cheaper everyday. Just get one if u cant buy two.
