These last couple of days, I have been trying to get my laptop fix, and by fix i mean stop from overheating.

I finally got tired of it and got it clean...didn't help(waste of money)

Then I decided to get a new fan for it. After about a couple of hours, and a looooong wait they finally installed a new fan. Couldn't check it at he store to make sure it was working. When i got back to my dorm I look a the fan and its not working :cursing:.

And today I was so horrible that I could not go to the store and tell them to fix it.

Now I still can't play CS:S because may computer may explode.

Cure this HP DV7 laptop.

ditch laptop for a real machine.

Well, that's not helpful AT ALL.

Did you try our Tech Forums? Moreover, there are several members that are very versed within the tech realms that you should reach out to. I wish you the best of luck.

Try the tech forum first.
Other than that, you can temporarily try a USB fan and hopefully that works

Just gotta get a true gaming machine. Desktop for life!

But I would suggest going to the Tech Help Forum. We have a lot of guys/girls here who are quite tech savy and could probably help you! Hope all gets fixed :)

I actually been in the tech forums alot. But to no avail and my laptop isn't that good for cooling fans(I have one) because the batter has a hump on it which naturally elevates it. This would be my last fix on this laptop. If this doesn't work then this thing needs to go bye bye.

I would love to buy a desktop computer, but money is tight and setting one up in a dorm where I can be move at any time is bad :/

As Ric said cooling pads help a lot though honestly your best course of action is to probably save money for a new laptop or desktop. I bought a Lenovo ideapad z575 (laptop) for 450 usd and it can run all source games at 150 fps. I can also run Skyrim pretty well on it.

It is possible that your laptop just can't handle playing these games. Does it overheat to the point where it shuts off during web browsing only? If during web browsing its fine there will be no use buying a cooling pad because his laptop can't play these games.

This laptop shuts off any time. Web browsing, leaving it idle, any game besides Tf2. The worst part is that it was never like this a few months ago. It slowly got worse to the point that i cannot take it anymore.

Yep, its time for a new computer!

Your labtop shuts down by itself??? May I suggest running a virus scan. If you don't have Norton, I suggest downloading Malwarebyte. The free version is pretty top tier and best of all, as I said free(although I bought the full version because I was that satisfied, along with Norton).

Also I feel your pain. I'm using my Hp DV4, that right, worse than yours lol. There is no way to stop the labtop from overheating by itself. HP just built our computer's airflow system awfully. What I did was buy a cooling fan myself and it really works. There are a lot of fan out there that is trash. I would suggest getting this one.

With this cooling fan, my computer stopped overheating. Instead of scorching hot air, it's just warm air coming out now. I could even run BF3 due to this(without the fan, it really overheats my comp(BF3)). So if you don't mind spending $30 on this fan, I would really really suggest this one. Anyways good luck with your computer. Be happy it's better than mine, although mine works fine.

Here's the setup I use:

But since your lappy can play TF2, I really don't see what the problem is.

One of my friends had the same computer like you; when we would have lan parties he kept having core meltdowns (computer shuts off to protect the components) I suggest getting a quality cooling mat.

Hope this helps you fix your problem.. If it does not work then get dry ice and a house fan and point it at your computer. :)

That is the most epic build I have ever seen.

For some reason I prefer idol build alot better.
I have been monitoring the temp of my computer(Razor game Booster). CPU, Vido Card and Hardidsk. I have found :cursing: thing...My temp was about 55 degree celesius for CPU and Video card and Hard disk was 35 degree. My computer is being a dick right now.

But the good news is that I can play CS;S now I just set it in window mode. I need a list of launch options guys can you help me? It seems that when I lower the grpahic and play in window mode the game lasts 0_o.

from what i have understood from the HP DV7 line is the nvidia graphics eventually puts out the viewing screen. in other words when the factory warranty is up, soon is the cooling cost. i learned this from a tenable ebay purchase of such a laptop and the stress of an aftermarket warranty is the stress you described.
