DoD:S Events and you...

Hey folks-

We have noticed that event attendance has been down. Not by a little, but by a lot. There could be several reasons for this... Perhaps people are just busy. Perhaps the events that we do a lot have grown stale. Perhaps people have just plain lost interest. It could be a combination of all of the above.

Here's the plan. Certain events will be temporarily cancelled. We will still have realism, the Dirty Dozen event, and Thursday night wild cards for a weekly fix.

For a short period, the times that we normally have events, we will be developing and testing new and improved events, for your enjoyment. We will need a handful of dedicated testers to help facilitate this. I have to warn you, it wont always be fun. sometimes it may be boring. We may test an idea that just wont work, and thats what we need to find out. I also have to mention that this is not horseplay time, anyone not helping will be asked to leave. This is important to our division, and I would need people that are honestly willing to help us get these things figured out.

For those of you that are not helping us test new ideas during normal event times, please, please, help the struggling servers... Anzio and Strand are in need of help. Spend an hour a day, if possible, trying to help these 2 servers. Kalt, Donner, and Ava are fine too, if you wish.

I am thinking around 30 days, give or take, for us to get a few more events lined up. This would be a good time for suggestions as well, as we will need a lot of ideas.

Ultimately, the goal is to have fun events for all of us, that hasnt changed. I just think the ones we have now are losing their sparkle. So stand by, and dont hesitate to shoot your ideas to Dodgy, myself, Dangle, Meg, or Nuke.

I'm going with busy. A lot of people have started school, summer is over. IRL stuff is more important than nightly events.

Thank you Mini- That could be for most people. However, I still think that new improved events would be a kick in the pants... Im sure there are many that would like to see something new. Last year at this time, IRL stuff still was happening, but our events were much more full than they are now, so there is another issue here

Tipper I am always ready to help in any way so if you need a tester give me a holler although I may not be available some times. But I am sure most of the time at night I usually have no plans and don't care how boring it is at least im doing something lol

Personally, I like the events we've had going or had in the past - PTP (Protect the President), Casual Realism, Gun Game, Beret/Q-tip's Lost Diary's event, playing on the 'fun' maps (IE Orange maps and other maps)

Can't remember if we had some others, but pretty sure there were others. That aside, some possible suggestions:

King of the Hill

Assault the fortress (If there's a DODS map (excluding strand) where one team starts inside a fortress and the other team starts either spread out across the outside of the fortress or just simply outside of it)

Q-Tip, I'm available pretty much any time of day. Just let me know when and where and I'll be there. I like testing out new ideas, and I do believe with new events the number of attendees will go up. This always happens at the start of the school season without fail. People find themselves settling in with school and just don't have the time to attend. But, if the event is appealing, people will make more of an effort to attend.

King of the Hill! That was one of my first suggestions as an event when I first joined... that was fun.. it was on that big pyramid, remember anyone?

Assault the fortress... that sounds cool!

Keep the ideas coming... we will get together monday evening, in vent, and discuss possible ideas to test and get attendance for those interested in helping for tuesday evening... So exciting!

We used to play a game back in Modern Warfare 2 called border police. In this game, there will be an escaping team, and a guard team. The guarding team will have two snipers, while the rest of the players goes to the other team. The snipers then go to a good vantage point, then signals the other team that the game has started. The objective is simple, the other team will have to reach one point in the map without getting killed by the snipers. The escaping team cannot use any kind of weaponry. They must sneak their way to their goal, or have someone act as a decoy while others run.

Since Call of Duty is very different compared to DoDS, we could change some of the rules. We could change the sniper rule, something like 1 sniper per 10 players on the other team. Since we have a 32 players server, we could have a maximum of 3 snipers on the guard team. We could also mix the game up a bit by, adding ground patrol to search for the escaping team. The escaping team can only fight back using a melee weapon, so you pretty much have to sneak up on them, or gang up on them.

We could also add a little story to the game mode. It could be something like, American POWs manage to escape captivity, but a German squad manage to find their general location. It is up to them to how they can outsmart the enemy patrol, and escape with minimal casualties.

Now that I think about it, I guess it's kind of like hide and seek. I haven't been to one of our hide and seek events during wildcard though, so I don't know the rules on that one.

This is just an idea of what I have in mind. I am open for discussion, and if I don't have anything really important to do, I would also help out in testing the other events that we will develop.

During the summer we euros usually go to most of the events that are on the weekends, but we can only go to euro events during autumn,winter and spring. This year I also have final exams.

Most of my absences are due in part because of my sleeping habits as I've found other servers to play on because I've found Ava/Donner quite boring. I will play every now and then on Anzio and Strand though.

I would like to suggest an idea that we open up our event server every now and then with a custom map of the week and fill up on that. The 24/7 maps are great, yes, but they've just become quite dull to me sadly. I miss not really knowing what's around the corner or in that window because most of it is already mapped in my head where most of the spots are with the 24/7 maps.

That's just how I feel at the moment.

We had Dangles Custom map on Fridays. Some came. The point here is not to inquire why people are not coming, but to figure out a way to get better attendance. I understand that real life stuff comes first. That has always been the case, but lately things are different. Instead of telling us reasons that you havent been coming, mention events that you like, or events that you would like to see... that would be more helpful... Thanks! keep em coming!
