Lately there has been a huge rise of telemarketing scams in Europe, people have received phone calls from individuals who claim to work for Microsoft. They will try to feed you a bunch of bogus that your computer is infected by a virus and is at risk of crashing at any time. They will then offer to help you for a fee. Basically what they do is installing a software similar to team viewer and then record all future activity. Meaning your financial data and even your identity is at risk of being stolen
How to recognize the scammers:
-The caller often speaks broken english
- They will try to seem credible by making you open command prompt and do assoc and a few other commands, then they'll claim the result is a unique id (Which is not at all true)
- They will try to make you open event log and try to give you the impression that any errors in there is related to the alleged virus.
What should i do:
Never give them the impression you have fallen for it.
If possible record the conversation and the phone number they're calling from and report to your local authorities.
Bottom line is; Should you receive a phone call from people who claim to work for Microsoft, HANG UP
Ask your self; Why would Microsoft know your computer has errors if you don't. And why would they just call you out of the blue?
