Installation CD question

Recently I "upgraded" my laptop from Windows Home Premium to Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 not knowing that it would send my computer to 32bit.

In the past my computer was 64 bit and I found out that you can set the installation disk to run as a 64 bit if your computer can handle it.

So my question is this, how to set my installation disk in a custom mode to run in 64bit.

there is no setting.. there is either 32 bit or 64 bit windows software. it sounds to me like you bought the wrong version.
 
Yep. as Silent said.. You got the wrong one. You either buy 32bit or 64bit. :-/ See if maybe they will let you return it but probably wont due to its been opened :-(

Then I have another question, I have back up my windows on an external hard drive. I am wondering if it is possible to install my own windows from it since I do not have the installation CD. I've seen on the internet that you can but I am skeptical of it.
 
it is possible to move a copy of windows from 1 drive to another, however, you will have to manually move some of the files... if you don't feel comfortable doing that, buy a new installation disk.
 
guess thats it. I will buy a new installation disk this weekend. Thanks guys for the advice.
