Upgrading from X850XT to Radeon HD 3850

I'm pretty sure I'm ordering a Radeon HD 3850 Friday that will be my Christmas present. I currently run an X850XT, so I'm wondering can I just leave the current ATI drivers installed and just pop the card in? I think I should be able to but others opinions would be nice. Btw, anyone want to buy the X850XT? =P

Well im no expert but i think the you need to update the drivers after you install the card. I heard and watched some movies about the 3850. But i prefer Nividia.
Sell your X850XT on ebay , surely someone will buy it for like 75 bucks.

k will do. Yeah Existence I was looking at 3870s. But the HIS IceQ3 Radeon HD 3850 TurboX is near 3870 clocks and is 214 on NCIX. Not worth the extra 36 dollars for a 3870, especially once ATItool does voltage changing on this card the cooler should let it easily hit 3870 speeds. I don't know if the GDDR4 on the 3870 will have much effect, its faster clock, but higher latency so who knows. Yeah I'm going to throw the X850XT on ebay, I'll probably sell it with the Zalman VF900 cooler too.

The current drivers might see the new card but you can have problems.

What I do is download the new drivers, uninstall the drivers and use Driver Cleaner ([link=hyperlink url]http://www.drivercleaner.net[/link]) , then change the card, boot up, then install the new drivers.

I've gone through alot of garbage if I forget to do that. I think some of the current card's settings get stuck in the reg or something. When I do it this way I never have any trouble.

Upgrrade to latest drivers, and you're fine. I personally use driver cleaner too.

when i upgraded my video card i downloaded the new drivers, uninstalled my driver then took out the card and put my new one in then installed my new driver but i have nvidia cards so it might be different with ati?

Just though I'd say that I still my x850xt too and I just got a 3870 but I can't really help with driver issues cause i did a clean install of windows.
