For several months in 2013, there were rumours of a substantial find of missing episodes in Africa being returned to the BBC. A BBC press conference held in October, with the participation of Deborah Watling and Frazer Hines, led to speculation that at least some of the episodes were from the Troughton era. It was announced the next day that a total of 11 episodes had been found at a television relay station in the city of Jos in Nigeria; episodes 1-6 of The Enemy of the World alongside episodes 1-2 and 4-6 of The Web of Fear. Of the total of 11, two had previously existed in the BBC archive. The return of the nine missing episodes is the largest single restoration of Doctor Who to the BBC since all four episodes of The Tomb of the Cybermen were returned in 1991. The discovery led to The Enemy of the World becoming only the second Troughton serial from his first two seasons as the Doctor to be fully restored to the BBC. Both serials were promptly released on iTunes, with episode 3 of Web of Fear included as a tele-snap reconstruction. The Enemy of the World is scheduled for release on BBC DVD on 25 November 2013 and The Web of Fear on 24 February 2014.

Excuse me while I fangasm.
