Question about Processors

Then the problem with that could be that there is a set cap on his FPS. I missed that post, my bad.

But he can always change the cap if he figures out how in console. I believe the command is something along the lines of "fps cap ect ect ect" I am unsure though.

One more question and I shall stop bugging you guys. I want to buy a new processor. I know how to install it and everything, but I have no idea what this "thermal paste" stuff is. Do I need to apply that stuff and if I do, where?

Thermal paste is a thick (sometimes very and not so thick) paste as the name says. It helps transfer the heat from the CPU directly to the heatsink. If you're buying a processor with a complete heatsink like from intel or AMD, you shouldnt have to worry about thermal paste as it will already come pre applied on most of the ones both of those brands sell.

When you apply thermal paste, there are many ways to do it.

Also, you MUST apply the thermal paste otherwise you're going to have heat dissipation issues. Meaning you're CPU will cook itself to death!

So, while i was donig some last minute research to check my motherboard to see what processor I could get, I found that I have 2 AMD Pheneom II X2 521 3.50GHZ Processors. My question is, what is more powerful, 2 AMD Pheneom II X2 521 Processors 3.50GHZ or 1 AMD Phemoen X3 8750 2.4GHZ?

Err... You have 2 processors? Those are mainly on workstation motherboards.

Do you mean you have 2 cores? AMD Phenom II X2(x2 means 2 cores. not 2 processors.)?

When i looked it up in Directx diagnostic tool, it said:

AMD Phenom(tm) II X2 521 Processor (2 CPUs), ~3.5GHZ


Also, when I go to Device Manager and click Processors, it has the CPU listed twice.

It's not literally "2 processors." It's running dual-cores. If you had an Intel chip, you may see 4 CPU's; dual core + Hyperthreading. So unless you're running an expensive workstation, you only have one CPU (with multiple cores); it just shows up as multiple CPU's because of how the hardware is recognized by the software.

You have an FPS cap in dod. I have one for sure. If you ever downloaded some of the configs around the dods forums thats probably where you got it from. You can change the max with the comand max_fps 300 or fps_max 300. I can't remember which one it is. Insert whatever number you want. The point of limiting fps is to limit excess wear on your components and there is some other reason where high fps can actually cause weird graphics issues that I can't remember.
