Wireless card and antenna help

and wondering if i can use the 5ghz, not sure if the router allows it, but if it does will it be better to use through a basement floor?

Would i need a longer antenna?

I can't spend much, but i am like 20 feet or so from the router and its through 1 floor and maybe a wall or 2..

It would depend on the Wifi standard of your router on whether or not you could use the 5ghz. (802.11a and 802.11n are the only standards that use 5ghz IIRC).

5ghz is typically better only because fewer devices operate on that frequency, which means less chance for interference.

I think you should be fine distance wise, as 20 feet is not a big deal, my only concern would be something in between messing with your signal. Hot water heater, fridge, pipes etc.

There is a furnace near the wall and a fridge above me...

It should be good, hopefully. Ill be good, if my brothers card doesn't use all the 2.4 and the router has 5 and i can use 5..
