Hey guys.

I am from the united kingdom and I am currently studying Electrical Engineering.

I have recently been looking into the RAF, The Marines and the Navy and taking on an apprenticeship there for Electrical Engineering.. I was wonder if any of you guys out there do any sort of service work (Army etc) on the technical side suchas Engineering.

If you do then do you enjoy it? Do you think it is worth it over a college course?

The apprenticeships I could get I would move away to say Hms sultan for the Navy and various other places most of the apprenticeships are 4 years of completion with a two year fitness and soldier training program on top you are then guaranteed a 9 year job deal with well above average pay.

The reason I am looking into this is because I find domestic and commercial stuff quite boring and am looking for something more challenging physically and mentally.

Any responses would be great <3

Wel i've been in the army , i never really got a rank but i've been serving in country's wich needed support , like building houses helping to move stuff etc , ive been in there for 1,5/2 years i did the study and than i got offered the job i wanted to do before this all , so i went over there to work there , reason why i left ? I lost my best friend and ive always promist to work with him now i coulnd hold that promise i took his place at that work , it gives me a some kind of feeling i can make it up with him ! Altough i really liked working within the army , as an infantry

So basicly i was somekind of train still but aftwler i finisht i left to work for that what ive explained above

31th NCB defence brigade (chemical div in my case), rank: sergeant (american equivalent), still serving going on my 5th year so far, currently doing officer training, more of a scientist than a soldier, fortunately never been deployed.

Do i enjoy it? Partially, youve got the boring stuff, endless drills, trainings and stuff(since i got promoted early this year, im the one doing the drilling, so its not that bad, for me at least lol). On the otherhand excessive budget and unlimited access to all kinds of chemicals + freeroam on my experiments(30% of the time), so yeah.

The army takes care of my housing, insurances and stuff, the pay is way above average (not sure about GB though). I would say its an easy existence, but theres bunch things, you can get deployed at any time, there are restrictions placed on your personal life, then theres the if you get deployed somewhere, high chance of getting shot, blown up, stabbed ... and thats not good for you.

Now do i think its worth over college? No, get a degree in whatever youre thinking of, if you still feel the call after, go for it, but yeah, my opinion is that a college degree has more worth than mil. service.

Opinions shared = check, to finalize it - whatever you choose is the right choice, so do what you gotta do man.
