Graphics card Issue :/

ok i'm at a loss and about ready to just buy a new card.

My current card is an 1024MB ATI AMD Radeon HD 7700 Series (XFX Pine Group) which has this issue of not fully recovering from a crash. Now i'll be playing mid-game and everything freezes. However i can still hear sound. Both my monitors turn black and will keep flickering on and off (monitors stay on and do not lose power, more so of picture.) and won't stop until you force shut it down. Oh i also do not overclock.

What I have tried. (Not in order)

1. Re-install drivers/make sure their up to date. (non-beta drivers)

2. Cleaned out computer of all dust for no added heat.

3. Checked card temps, which are all fine. Motherboard and graphics card sits at 44-45c while my CPU sits at 34-35c

4. Take card out and put it back in.

5. Re-installed windows

6. Boosted recover time, however it does not help at all.

At this point I feel as though i need to buy a new card. My old one never had this issue, however it had no fan and overheated all the time.

System specs

CPU - AMD Phenom II X6 1050T
Thuban 45nm Technology

Ram - 8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 669MHz (9-9-9-24)

Motherboard - Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. M68MT-S2P (Socket M2)

Graphics card - 1024MB ATI AMD Radeon HD 7700 Series (XFX Pine Group)

Monitors - Acer S202HL (1600x900@60Hz) / 2236 (1920x1080@60Hz)

It also seems certain games have this issue, where as some/many do not.
 
You say this happens Mid game?

but not idle on desktop?

Could be a dying card, unless its only certain games.
Like Doc said find out what games this happens on and see if theres any known issues with your setup and said games.

Also what OS are you running?


Somethings to try:

Check Dxdiag under display and see if it report any errors.
(ctrl R , Dxdiag -> Display tab)

Run a Stress test like furmark or run a game for a while and check temps again.

Switch to onboard video or a different external video card (if you have them) and run a stress again.

Try beta Drivers or older past drivers.

Wouldnt hurt to run chkdsk or a memory test either.
 
I have tried beta drivers, which failed and have used older drivers, where the issue was more common.

As of now the games that are affected by this are

1. Warface

2. Arma 2

3. How to survive

4. Counter-strike source

5. Payday 2

However these events are random. I can game for 5+ hours, then the next time it will crash ranging from 1-2 hours of play. I have ran a Benchmark in the past for world of warplanes with a similar issue and everything was fine on my end, it ened yp to be a problem on their side.

My OS is windows 7 64-bit. I forgot to mention that the only known issue my brother had with it was the screens would lose connection when it played a video using Flash, however i have not ran into this issue.

Everything else you mentioned Kitetsu, I have done before with everything being in the green. My old video card never had this issue, well except running over 80c because it had a heat-sync. I also did some external research and it seems this might be a known issue, but i don't know.
 
It sounds like your card could be over heating and forcing itself to shut down. Have you checked the temps of the card at all?

Yes, my main which is the acer lasted longer then the other one or so it seemed. However both separate gave me the crash.

As stated before, temps are not the issue. They are within the normal if not lower. Benchmark showed that they were fine and in the green, so overheating is ruled out.
 
Sounds like a bad card, making something went wrong with it hardware wise and not driver/software. You've literally addressed or tried every remedy that I would have suggested. At this stage, I think you should contact XFX for an RMA and replace the card. Hope RMA and warranty support is still available; one of the reasons why I go with EVGA is their limited-lifetime warranty so in cases like these, I can send it back to them for repair/replacement.
 
I think this card is past its warranty, I'll have to double check when i get home from college. I have a feeling though i will end up buying a new card in the coming weeks.

That's probably your best bet at this point. Black friday and the holidays are coming up, so you have plenty of on sale opportunity's.

Also not sure if this was mentioned, but make sure its not something stupid like a bad DVI/HDMI cable or even a bad expansion slot on your mobo.
 
have you tried increasing the GPU voltage settings? as electronics age they tend to not use power as efficiently as when new... vdroop for example
