How do these stats make any sense?

OK, so I went to check my stats. I'm #24 with 3,093 kills to 1,928 deaths giving me a 1.60 KTD, but #23 above me has 290 kills and 579 deaths?

Huh?

/me thinks he will just ignore stats from now on.

It has to do with the number of points you accumulate. Not just the kill/death ratio.

5 points for building engineer machines
5 points for taking their intel
etc..

I dropped from #29 to #51 within a day, and I don't know how I lost so many points.

Yeah, look at his stat page. The guy is a medic most of the time. He has a lot of medic kill assists, which bring more points than your headshots.

Thats becuase you play engineer a lot eyeless. And losing ranks without playing just means people advanced higher then you while they played and it pushed you down. You didnt actually lose any points

A new player has 1000 points. Every time you make a kill, you gain a certain amount of points depending on a) the victim's points rating, and b) the weapon you used. If you kill someone with a higher points rating than you, then you gain more points than if you kill someone with a lower points rating than you. Therefore, killing newbies will not get you as far as killing the #1 player. And if you kill someone with your knife, you gain more points than if you kill them with a rifle, for example.

When you are killed, you lose a certain amount of points, which again depends on the points rating of your killer and the weapon they used (you don't lose as many points for being killed by the #1 player with a rifle than you do for being killed by a low ranked player with a knife). This makes moving up the rankings easier, but makes staying in the top spots harder.

I got this from the HELP screen on the hlstats page..

I cant find an actual breakdown of the point system anywhere, I was curious how it worked too, but that was the only explanation available.

Which explains why I dropped a lot, as well as the fact that I've been lagging for a while, and haven't played much in result of that.

Engineer gives you too easy pts...For instance Medic doesn't...

Really?? Cause I always get my highest scores when I play medic..

A bad engineer gets the most points, that and the person blowing up all their stuff (except spies)....

5 points to build sentry/dispenser
5 points to destroy sentry/dispenser (where I get alot of my points)

Losing your buildings should cost you a good chunk of the points you got for building them. So engineers that keep their buildings alive and hold out against the enemy get more points than the people losing their sentry every time they build it.

Cause... seriously... last night I had almost twice as many destructions as kills. As a soldier.
