Much to my wifes dismay, i just pulled the trigger on some new upgrades for my comp

currently i have an i5-750 on an evga p55 ftw. been looking to upgrade so i can run an crossfire setup. i can't with my current board due to the top pci-e slot is a lil loose and causes my video to cut out. so i am using my 7950 on the bottom x8 slot.

so this is what i bought

the whole setup ran $509 with promo codes.

i will be reusing my Hard drives, power supply, my radeon hd 7950, 4 gb of the 8gb of memory for a total of 20gb of ram, my HAF 932 case and my corsair a70 cpu cooler since 1155/1150 coolers use the same mounting pattern.

My current setup besides vid card is almost 3 yrs old (mem, cpu, mobo) so it is time (usually upgrade every 2 yrs)

I'm confused. What's with the x2 line? It's the same motherboard... And how you're running 20GB of RAM? 8GB x2 + 4GB? 8GBx2 + 2GBx2?
 
yea thats all the same link man
also running amd gpu's with intel isnt the best idea even though it works

fixed the links. also have had great experience with my amd vid card. only a few issues with BF4 but were fixed with the latest beta drivers. also i already have a great card.
 
i probably don't need all that ram.. i will be using 2X8 gb and 2X2gb. then using my old cpu and mobo to upgrade my girls computer in their room, might just let them use the 8gb of ram in my old setup and just use the 16 gb i just bought. i might also take the mobo and cpu out of my girls comp and building one for my boys

That simply isn't true anymore. I've never had a problem running AMD graphics on an Intel mobo/processor (or vice versa -- nVidia graphics with an AMD setup), especially since AMD improved driver compatibility and performance somewhere in the realm of 6-10 years ago.

To the OP: Coolbeans! I would have personally stuck to Ivy or Sandy Bridge but that's to tastes -- I am sure that setup will serve you well (even if that is a metric elephant-ton of RAM).

The idea that AMD GPU's don't run as well as nVidia on Intel CPUs. Which if you're going back in time to when ATI got bought out by AMD, yeah, that'd be true. But for the past couple of years, that has dried up. The primary issue isn't a hardware optimization, but the lack of drivers from AMD that would improve GPU optimization on either AMD and Intel CPU's.

And he already bought the RAM. That's why he listed it and said he pulled the trigger.

Ah, I see. Thanks for clearing that up. I never owned that many ATI products. :P
