Hey Guys Mu here. I thought today i would create a small team fortress 2 trading guide for people who are curious about tf2 trading or who are rather new to trading and looking for a basic overview of what tf2 trading is.
What is Tf2 Trading? Well, Team Fortress 2 trading is where players exchange items in their backpacks. This can be done simply by going to your loadout and clicking the trade button and choosing a person on that list to trade with.
What is the point of Tf2 Trading? If you check your backpack, there is a good chance someone wants one of your items whether that be weapons, hats or unusuals. By going to a trade server, you can exchange items that you don't need or want for items that you do want. For example, I may have randomly picked up a few weapons that I don't need while playing on an Edge Gamer's Dustbowl Server. I can than go to a trade server and exchange these weapons for items that would be more valuable to me. This is one of the benefits of trade servers, instead of being on a dustbowl server asking if anyone wants your items you can go to a trade server where the server is full of people buying and selling items that you need or trying to sell. Trade servers are also a great place to find out how much your items are worth and to trade for items that really interest you. You can also make profit on trade servers by buying low priced items and selling them for higher. * This could take some research and isn't recommended for new traders. If you are trying to make profit do lots of research on the item your going to buy cheap and sell high.
Whats the first step to becoming a Tf2 trader? If you're completely new to this idea of trading, I would suggest visiting a trade server, and observing what the other people are doing on the server. Try and observe, what people are pricing their items at and how popular that item is. Keep in mind, if you don't know the prices of you're items ask people on the server what they think they value your item at that you're trying to sell. The majority of the time, people will be friendly and tell you the value of your item. Keep in mind though, there are scammers out there who will try and give you a false price, and try and buy it from you cheap. This is why it is always good to get a second opinion on an item through visiting a trading website or asking multiple people on the server what they feel the price of your item is valued at. If you have an unusual take extra precaution before trading it. If you don't know the price of something, it is always best to do a little research before hurrying in to a trade.
Metal Rules the Trading World! There are three different types of metal. Scrap metal, reclaimed metal, and refined metal. You can make this metal through crafting. You can craft by going to your loadout and clicking crafting. From there you can click smelt class weapons. You than place a weapon in each of the two boxes and it creates scrap metal. From there you need 3 scrap metal to make a reclaimed. Than you need 3 reclaimed to make a refined. Metal is used as a standard currency for trading. For example, a guy might be selling a weapon you need for 1 scrap. Or a guy might be selling a hat for 1.33 refined which is one refined and one scrap.
The Basic Prices of Your Tf2 Items ( Keep in mind these Prices are Subject to Change )
Weapons: Sell for 1 scrap each
Craftable Hats: Sell for 1.33 refined * Keep in mind there are exception to this such as a team Captain hat or Modest Pile of Hat which sell for one 1 key each
Name Tag: 2.33 refined
Crates: Not too valuable, and are hardly traded. Some crates are super rare such as salvage crates while others aren't. Most sell for around 1 scrap per 5-10 crates. Typically depends on the server and the level of the crate* Always good to do research before selling
Advice for New Traders: As you begin your Tf2 trading journey, always try and trade smart. When you're on a trade server never feel like you will be judged poorly for asking questions. If you are unsure of a trade you're about to make ask the people on the server if its a fair trade. The majority of trading will be learned from actually being on a server and observing what other people are trading and the prices listed. Trading overall should be a fun experience where you can meet new people and trade for those items that you always wanted.
