Battlefield 4 How do you guys play this game?

I feel like there is something missing in the way I play.
I can't make any progress in the game going 0-10 every round.

I feel like I can never see the enemy fast enough. If I see them, they have killed me. Then there are some maps, like the prison one, where I can't see anyone outside because it's too bright, or inside, because it's too dark. Yet, I am getting picked off left and right.

My PC is fine, internet connection is fine, and I know what I am doing...

Has anyone else had this problem?

The snow in Operation Locker just sucks for everyone all the time. :(

If you wanna die less then just be more patient with your style of play. Be more careful when you move up, try to stay out of open areas as much as possible, use cover and check the rooms before you run into them. There's other stuff too but it really just comes to using your head and not sprinting headfirst into bullets (I do this a lot of the time though).

Other than that... I don't know. Just keep playing and you'll just get better at the other game mechanics like compensating for recoil and aiming... and stuff.. and things.

Or you could just be like some of the guys here and just be too good to die.

For me personally, I adjust my brightness depending on the map. For instance I find the Zavod 311 is way to saturated with colour so I increase the brightness, so I can see players abit more clearly. On the other hand Operation I decrease the brightness in order for me see people outside in the snow. Another thing is this sound basic but stick to cover and choose your firefights dont engange on enemies unless you know you can kill them.

The thing that has helped me the most is slowing down. In Battlefield 4 it seems like everybody is always sprinting around and my tendency is to sprint after them. I get to where I'm pretty close to the front line and I crouch behind cover and start picking my way up closer and all these people are sprinting past me. When I started playing I'd get up and start sprinting with them, and we'd all die. I've learned to let those guys die and watch to see where they're getting shot from. Then I continue to pick my way up until I have a shot on the enemy. I'm not a great player, but this has doubled my K/D ratio.

Camouflage. Blend into the surroundings. Don't rush unless you know there are only about 0-2 guys around the corner. Let the dummies rush in first, get shot, and die. See the direction the bullets came from and then go in for the kill. Or you could just camp. That helps your k/d, but really does nothing for your team, except bleed a few tickets.

If your having trouble with your peripheral view areas, you might want to increase your field of view a little in your settings.

If you get one of the night vision scopes through battlepack they work really well in operation locker
I'm not that good of a player with a .9 k/d ratio but i'm having fun.

-Personally, I immediately turned my FOV up in game to 90-100. This not only helps with feeling less motion sick, but it also assists in spotting enemies.
-Constantly spam the Q (spot) button. Whether you can see enemies or not, spam it.
-Stick to cover as much as possible and constantly listen for enemy chatter. If you are able to pinpoint audio queues from enemies, it will help you get the drop on them easier.
-Watch your mini-map! I've spent a couple matches simply staring at my mini-map to pinpoint locations. This helped while playing normally because the muscle memory of quickly glancing for anything red on my map had burned it quickly.
-Use hip fire! Hip fire is GREATLY improved in BF4 over BF3. Many times, you'll kill opponents outright before they know what hit them without that delay from ADS.
-Do the easiest progression possible for you to get used to a class and unlock to most in the shortest amount of time.
-Always have an XP boost on when available! This will help to level your classes and weapons fast to get more bang for your buck. (To enable these, press ESC and in the bottom right there is a button to enable an XP Boost. They last for 60minutes of SPAWNED time. So if you're dead, the timer doesn't run out.)

Some of these are just general FPS tips, and some are very BF4 specific. Many of them are general guidelines that, when implemented, should help your K/D and overall experience. See you on the battlefield! :D

Thanks for the responses guys, I am doing most of this.
I don't rush in, I try to keep cover along as much of my body as possible. If I am careful to pick my engagements, I get rushed from behind and filled with lead or shanked.
I unlocked the FLIR scope for the U-100 but that gun is just bad. Terrible rate of fire, terrible recoil, low damage. I can see if I can change the brightness and see if that helps, but I'm surprised to hear people are changing monitor settings based on the map. If the snow on Locker is bad for everyone, then by that reasoning, it should be a fairer fight. It's seriously not even a contest when I play.

I just get killed by the same guy 5 times in a row and they are like 17-0 while I'm still like 2-6, and then you start to wonder "why bother" if they have a low-damage hack on that enables them to run around the map without a care.

I'll play with the brightness and see what that does.

It does take some time to get used to, just try not to get too frustrated. It will come with practice, there are a lot of great gamers in this division and they have offered some great advice, just keep joining up with us in squads and it will also help you become a better player. ~cheers

One thing that I've noticed between BF3 and BF4 (or BF4 and any other FPS game) is that the hitbox for the head is much smaller in this game. I used to always aim for the head no matter what weapon I was using or whatever, and I've found that because of this change it makes it much less effective.

When I was in basic training for the army, I remember one thing the Drill Sergeants always told us was "you never aim for the head, because you WILL miss." I've had to remember that in playing BF4 unless I'm using a slow rate-of-fire weapon where I can actually hold the crosshairs on their dome piece. Center mass (stomach/chest) is where I have found it's at with the high rate-of-fire weapons.

This is entirely person preference with my abilities to aim, but I typically pull a KDR of 1.7-2.5 pretty much every round I play with it being pretty regular to get upwards of 30-40 kills per round. The biggest tip I can give, however, is be unpredictable in what you're doing. This means flanking ALWAYS, and hitting hard and fast. One of my favorite things to do on Operation Locker is to blow up the side rooms around the tunnels going in and out and sprint through them before the other team really knows what's going on. It's pretty common to get 3-4 kills before I die doing this, and flanking behind with a pump action shotgun (the Hawk 12G is my personal favorite) and getting 6 kills with a full magazine is pretty hilarious.

using your head and not sprinting headfirst into bullets

Bahahahaha I do this all the time. I've taken out at least 7 people in a row within 20 seconds with 1-2 reloads (just find cover when you're reloading). Rushing isn't some people's thing. I also prefer the stealthy approach, which can sometime take forever, but it works. Going prone and wearing camo that fits the surroundings. That has saved me too many times to count when I run into tanks/LAVs.

Thanks guys, some helpful stuff here.

Not all of it, and plenty of contradictions. Looks like I just need practice or possibly a different game. We'll see.

If you are having issues killing people try going to infantry only modes like domination and obliteration to get some practice in. Assault in this mode will keep you alive more than you would think. Take the med pack drop it on a corner and use corners as cover. If you take a hit that drops you below 60% heal for a second then re-engage.

Finding a weapon that suits your play style is also a must. Currently the best assault in the game(opinions may vary) is the Ace 23, low recoil, decent fire rate and high damage. Only down side is the fire rate is about 770 iirc which makes you slightly weaker in close quarters battle. As well as it's hip fire being a bit more random then some. This is a aim to kill gun not really a spray and pray weapon.

Remember to try to stick with squad/teammates, power in numbers. If you are around more people the odds of you dying does go down(less likely to be shot at) and this will also increase the chances of you getting revived to avoid the death.

Sorry my advice is vague, a lot of people said play slow but I am a very aggressive player that relies on my reaction time(aim and shoot them before they can shoot me and win by out damaging them before I die).

Last piece of advice is to each their own. Advice can really only help so much, experiment with your play style and try to find one that suits you. Remember to stay calm and check your mini map. Every time someone fires a unsuppressed weapon they show up on the mini map for a short time. Flanking this person is near a guaranteed kill, note the direction they are facing and which way they are running. And once again STAY CALM, panicking and firing randomly will always(unless you get a lucky head shot, which is why they call it "spray and praying") result in a death. Join vent and squad up with some of us, learn the game through example and experimentation and you'll do fine.

Let me know if you need any other help or have any other questions.
