I don't know a lot about how SLI works exactly, but I'm considering getting another GPU as an upgrade for my rig. So before I decide anything for sure and spend a lot of money on something that may not be what I expect I have a few questions.
Here are my specs:
Intel Core i5 4670K @ 3.40GHz
16.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3
MSI Z87-G45 GAMING
2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770
238GB Samsung SSD 840 PRO Series ATA Device
931GB Western Digital WDC WD1002FAEX-00Y9A0 ATA Device
1. Is it better to use SLI or have a single GPU that's more powerful?
2. How much exactly would SLI increase power consumption? I feel like that's pretty obvious but I'm wondering if the extra cards use full power all the time considering they aren't always used.
3. How compatible are different cards with each other? I know I can't mix NVIDIA and AMD but I don't know if I have to use the same kind of card and manufacturer or not.
4. Is SLI really worth it for my rig? Honestly I'm looking at it mostly so I can play games with max Physx at 60fps.
