Too Cool

I am wanting to know if keeping a GPU to cool will affect my fps in game?

If so is there a optimal temp that the GPU should run at?

I know all cards are diff mine is an older 8600gt nivida.

Well heres the bigger question. Is the fan that's built into the gpu still working?

If so, then there's no need to add more cooling for the video card, seeing as how old it really is. If not, then you definitely need to look into getting the entire video card replaced asap.

What exactly is the reason that you're wanting more cooling for your video card?

Yeah it can get too cool to work, but you aren't working with nitrogen are you?

Also, the 8600gt can hit 100c and still work for a long time. My card still runs after being 86 for weeks on end..

Gotta love florida summers.

My fan is working good i clean out the bunnys on all my fans and case every month.

I down load a program to over clock my card to see if i could get better fps.

I got my card working at GPU clock at 693 memory clock at 913 and Temperature Hysteresis (in *c 10). Running in game the GPU don't get over 63c and i only get like 40-60 fps on the servers.

If i shut the fan curve program off on the program i am using i can get the temp up to 74c and i run like 90-120 fps.

With that said should i try to get my temp up even higher to see if i get better fps.

The cooler you can keep your card, the higher you can OC it. That's the basic fundamental reasoning behind cooling the card off. If it gets too hot, the computer will become unstable and crash; if it's wayyyy too hot, it'll burn itself out and you got a dead video card. So it's always in your best interest to keep your card cool up to a certain level; higher than that, you'll burn the card out.

No, if anything it would be the opposite. The main reason for people using extreme cooling is so they can overclock further. The fact your card runs faster while it's warmer is really strange. 74c is still not very hot, not enough to worry you at least.

Right now i have it staying around 68c and in smoke it gets to about 72c it's working great.
