So the ram i got for my mobo

GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory Model F3-14900CL9D-8GBXL

and turns out that they arent compatible in dual channel so i looked up what i should do and people said that they entered the default timings in the bios and the voltage so my question.....

is this safe? or should i return the ram?
 
Yes, it is safe to change the timings & the voltage to default if the motherboard isnt registering it as default. However my question is does the bios show the timings & voltage has being higher or lower than what it really is right now?
 
I'm not sure as I haven't gotten the parts yet due to the storms and holiday shopping but I'll pm u as soon as I get them

Not sure what the issue is. Looks compatible to me in stock settings. Now, the system might default the timings and speed to 1333 and some generic timings, but going into bios and changing the timings and speed without a volt change should be no issue, as the board is rated for 1.5v which is what that ram runs at with the normal timings and speed.

super easy to do, and since no volt change very, very safe. Hope this helps. the only reason for a volt change would be if you were to overclock the ram above 1866MHz which the board is rated to a max of 2000MHz. Which is not really something you need to do to get this to work.
