Advice on pc parts?

If playing games that don't really need a quad core sure.
But if you are planning on playing with this rig for next 4-5 years. It would best to get quad core and 600 watt psu. So you could have better graphic if you planned on getting it

I'd go with an i5 type Processor..minimum... then again I dont like i3's and I have an i7.

If you want a decent but not budget busting computer and are not a real power user:

i5 minimum, a generation out of date is not a problem if you can find one (you'll likely never notice the difference). 8 gigs of RAM, feel free to go 12-16 if you have money to burn but it's in no way necessary. Whatever the best video card you can afford. I have a Radeon 7770 which is basically a budget card ($90 online these days) and it chews through TF2 effortlessly (and pushes 50-60 frames on medium-high in BF5). The real key is to not skimp on the power supply.
