When I play games ( CSS, BF4, COD) on my desktop that's connected wirelessly to the internet, I seem to have an issue with my bullets not registering. when I ran tests in game it shows up that im losing packets ( about 4-10 packets). But for some reason when im not in a game and do the tests everything is fine. I have no clue what can cause this. Do I need a new router or wireless adapter?

Needing new hardware is always a possibility, however I'd lean more towards you are either on the edge of your wi-fi range or you dont have the bandwidth to do what you want. To be honest though, a hard line connection is the best way to play FPS games.
A few questions for you:
Who's your internet provider?
Have you ran speed tests hard lined and then wireless?
Have you updated all your drivers lately?
Also you may try sitting right beside your router and testing your speed and move away several times retesting it as you go. This will give you a good idea of where you start losing bandwidth. Also if someone on your connection is hard lined and they are streaming, they will take priority over you.
Make sure you test your speeds daily. Anything can happen. I repair squirrel chews on Ariel drops all the time. This will play an extreme part of your Internets performance. If you have any amount of ingress in your network, internet will be affected before anything else.
Give these a shot, if you have any questions, just pm me.
Also, if you are going to by a new router and you have the money, look into the Airport. It's for a mac but also works with pc. It's range is very good and the degradation of signal is very slight.
I know you might not have an option, but something what people don't think about is wireless devices and peripherals. If you have a wireless mouse, wireless keyboard, and wireless connection....or really any combination of these you will always be outshot by someone that has no wireless when both of you have the exact same latency. So if you can help it, get hard lined. Your issue is packet loss. I have only seen that when you have wireless internet.

I would love to play on a hard line, but unfortunately my router is in my basement and my room is on the 2nd floor of my house. I am out of my wifi range but I have a range extender on the 1st floor.

my speed test is 8mbps download speed and 5mbps upload speed.

I am thinking of buying a new wireless adapter and maybe a router too. could you or anyone tell me what ones are good.

A new wireless adapter probably wont help you in your situation. That's barely enough speed hard lined for this game, let alone wireless 2 floors away.
As far as wireless adapters, I've only used a $30 Target special while I was waiting for my internet to be installed.
I've never used or known anyone to use a range extender. If they work like the one at my sisters house for phone they still drop signal regularly.
Personally if I had this problem I would either move the modem closer, or go to a data company that does installations and things. Ask them for an 80' length of Cat5 with RJ-45 fittings on them. If you can find a shop like that, they'll usually get you one for $10-$15

I agree about the range extender. it drops signal all the time so my ping jumps up and down.
I cant move my modem. my stupid cable company gave us one where it powers the phone line too. I was thinking about asking them about coming out and installing another modem in the room im in now if it doesn't cost too much more a month.

Couple things with that, there may be hope. Do you live alone? with parents? Do you have a cable jack in your room?
The telephone does not have to be powered through your house wiring, or it can be connected to any phone jack in the house. I recommend to customers to get the kind of phone that has 1 hub and 2 or 3 terminals. Just plug the hub directly into the modem, the terminals only need power. It eliminates potential phone issues and makes fixing any much easier to trouble shoot.
Also, is it a Comcast wireless modem/ router or do you have your own router? The range on the Comcast router isn't great for large homes and should really be as close to the center of the home as possible.
And if you want a second modem, you will have to pay for two internet packages, otherwise the modems will 'trip' over each other giving you basically the same issue.

I live in a house with my grandma in-law. we pay 50/50 on all the bills. there is not cable jack in my room.
the telephone line is powered by the modem because it runs from the modem to the wall and gives the other phone jacks in the house a dialtone, but when you unplug it there is no dialtone.
it is not a modem and router all in one. its a Comcast modem and its hooked up to my cysco router.

I know about powering all the other jacks. What I meant was you have the option of different style phones that would eliminate the need to power your house phone jacks so the modem could be moved. However if you live with your grandma she probably has older phones and likes it that way.

It's like $4-$5 a month and it covers almost the entire amount of repairing and installing new cable. And then the next month you cancel the SPP. Give them a call, see what it might cost with the S.P.P to add a cable jack in your room. As long as shes not super internet reliant she wont need the modem at her pc.....and you do happen to have a wifi adapter you wouldn't need if you moved the outlet. The price for SPP may vary depending on where you are in the country.

Then really the first thing to try is upgrade your speed. It's possible the wireless adapter is fine just doesn't have enough to send to you. You already have triple play I assume. The Preferred package with 25 Mbps down and 4 up. If you are shrewd you may even be able to have them put you on a 6 month promotion that will lower your bill and give you Blast speed which is 50 Mbps down and 10 up. Thats when youll know if your router and adapter are working. And these promotions are renewable a few times and almost always when they expire a new one is lurking about somewhere. You're best bet is to hit Best Buy and see if you can get a Direct Sales Rep. Thats where the good deals and promotions are.
Or another thing I just thought of, depending on what your grandma thinks. If she owns her own home she can "rent" that room. If you can afford it, they can come install and independent network. youd have to pay your own cable bill, but its an option.
