What is this forum? What are the guidelines to posting?
Hello and welcome to the Edge Gamers Organization forum! This is the marketplace of activity for most of our members and players and the place where all questions can be answered.

When you are posting, keep in mind the eGO Code of Conduct. Those rules not only govern behavior on our servers but also on this forum. That means do not be profane, obscene, disrespectful, et cetera. If you follow these rules, you will be as cool as Daryl Hall, and who wouldn’t want to be as cool as Daryl Hall?

Is there a Steam group for the clan and division?
Yes, there is! The Steam group for the entire Edge Gamers Organization community can be found here. The Steam group specifically dedicated to the Team Fortress 2 Division of eGO may be found here.

What is TS3?
If you’ve spent any time on our servers, you’ve probably noticed an ad in the corner mentioning TS3. Formally known as TeamSpeak 3, TS3 is the VOIP primarily used in eGO. It allows us to speak to one another directly, even when not in game. All of our meetings are hosted through TS3. All the information you need to know to download, install, and use TS3 is located here.

Don’t worry if you lack a microphone. Many members come into TS3 just to hear the chatter of the day in our TS3 rooms. Remember, the rules listed in the Code of Conduct apply to TS3 as well. The only exception is that certain rooms are marked Rated R. In those rooms, we relax the rules on profanity. That is not a license to curse incessantly; it simply means you won’t have to worry if you let a vulgarity slip.

What are events?
Events are the exciting get-togethers we have on a nightly basis in our dedicated event server. These are the times when we get away from a long day of enforcing rules against the unruly and play with each other in situations that are radically different from conventional play.

To find out more about the events we run, how to behave at events, and other sundry information, click here.

How can I keep up with what is going on?
Information about the goings-on of the division is at your fingertips. News from Leadership circulates through the Division Discussion forum from time to time. In addition, Leadership hosts bimonthly divisional meetings, in which the leaders speak about any current events and field your questions; look for the threads in Division Discussion advertising an upcoming divisional meeting. If you happen to miss it, fear not: the first post of that thread will eventually contain a linked recording of the divisional meeting for you to listen to at your convenience.

Lastly, you may always attend a monthly clan-wide meeting. These meetings generally fall on the last Saturday of every month. There, you can hear the leaders deliver an abbreviated clip of divisional news.

How can I help someone join eGO?
Perhaps you’ve loved it here so much that you want to encourage your friends to join, or you’ve seen someone on the servers whom you think would make an excellent addition to our family. One does not simply adopt the clan tags. There is a specific but simple process to joining eGO. That process, along with information about the people who can help you become proficient at recruiting, may be found here.

Is there a competitive team? How do I join?
Yes, we do have a competitive team. The division boasts a sixes team with a superb record of performance in seasons past. If you are interested in joining, send a private message to A Nudist Colony.

Who is in charge of the division?
The august members who sacrifice a bit of their time every day to oversee the smooth functioning of the division and the satisfaction of the public are collectively known as Leadership. To look up who these people are, click here.

There is another member/admin that is breaking the rules/abusing power/harassing me. How do I report this?
The best route to addressing a problem like this is to report it directly to Leadership. You may do that by contacting leaders through a private message, through Steam, through TS3, through telegraph, through semaphore, through carrier pigeon, or through the Dropbox.

What is the Dropbox?
The Dropbox is a special subforum made for you to communicate to Leadership directly. The only people who can see what you’ve written are you and the leaders. Think of it as a private suggestion box. Appending a thread prefix helps the leaders identify and prioritize which Dropbox posts need the most immediate attention. It is also helpful if you make a note in the title of your thread which division is the subject of your post so that the proper Leadership team may address it.

Can I play other games and can I wear my tags there?
Of course! Your tags should be a source of pride to you. The games you play, whether in eGO or not, are your concern and no one has the right to harass you because you aren’t playing the game of your primary division.

What that means is, if you play on another clan’s server, you may wear our tags unless the clan asks you otherwise. If you are on another clan’s server, you must follow the rules of that server and that clan. A simple search of your Steam ID will trace back to this website. Remember that you are always an ambassador of our community, wherever you are, for that reason.

I am playing another game more now. Can I switch divisions?
You certainly may. To do that, send a private message to the division leaders of this division and the division to which you wish to go. You’ll never need to do that, though, because this is dabes division.

How do I get promoted?
First and foremost, follow the rules! You cannot expect Leadership to entrust you with upholding the rules if you refuse to obey them. Secondly, get noticed. There are many roads to getting noticed: recruit, fill servers, attend events, come on TS3, be a good sport on the servers, or post on the forum. Leadership cannot promote you if it doesn’t know who you are. Thirdly, do not ask for it. Self-importance does not speak well to your character and we only want mature administrators. Your character defines you wherever you are, so if you have a bad reputation, you will only be holding yourself back. If you are a person of good character, people will recommend you to be promoted and all will come in due time.

Harassing other members to put in promotion recommendations for you, sucking up to members of Leadership, and trading promotion recommendations with other members will ensure you do not get promoted. To be an administrator is a privilege, not a right, and you must earn that privilege not only with good deeds but also with good personal conduct.

I am an =(eG)=. How do I show that I am ready for my O?
The guiding principles underlying promotion stated above work well for getting your second promotion. Moreover, you have the ability to answer admin scenarios. Answering admin scenarios helps Leadership pick out those individuals worthy of wielding the almighty ban hammer. Also, when other admins call on you in server to address an admin situation, answer their call. Getting field experience is one of the surest ways to gauge your readiness for promotion.

I am leaving eGO due to [reason]. How do I leave?
If you are an =(e)= then the process is very simple: remove your tags. It would be appreciated if you notify a member of Leadership about your intent to leave, but it is not strictly necessary.

If you are an =(eG)= or =(eGO)= then it is essential that you notify a member of Leadership before leaving. Leadership needs to keep track of who has administrative powers on the servers and since Leadership alone can grant administrative powers, it also can revoke those powers.

Either way, we’ll miss you!

I will be gone for [time]. Do I lose my admin/membership?
Membership is never revoked for time spent away from the community. Administrative power, however, does lapse over time if you do not visit the website regularly. It is important to check onto the website at least once a week as an admin; this is how the system tracks whose powers should remain active and whose powers are rendered inactive.

If you need to be away from playing for an extended period of time, notify a Leadership member. He or she will be able to assist you further.

The Servers
Which TF2 servers are hosted by eGO?
To find a complete listing of the servers that the Team Fortress 2 Division hosts, click here.

Are stats tracked on our servers?
Yes. We use GameME to support statistical tracking on all servers except our Event and League servers.

I’ve heard some people mention our servers use QuickPlay. What is it?
QuickPlay is a system that directs players to servers. If you’ve ever clicked the “Play Multiplayer” button on the Team Fortress 2 main menu, you’ll be directed into the QuickPlay system, which attempts to identify the best server for you. There are many factors involved in making that decision, but one very important factor is the server’s rank.

The server’s rank is a number determined by the constancy of traffic. In other words, the more people on a server for a longer period of time, the higher the server’s rank. The higher the server’s rank, the more likely you will be directed onto that server when utilizing QuickPlay. Consequently, the Division strives to have servers filled as long as possible with as many people, so that it can continue to grow. We are not entirely reliant on QuickPlay, but its effects are helpful.

Do we have any commands on our servers?
All servers have GameME installed. The following GameME commands can be used on all servers:

/gameme - brings up the GameME menu
!gameme_vanish 1 - eliminates GameME points messages

You may have also noticed the green Edge-Gamers.com text in the lower left corner of your screen when on our servers. To disable that, open up your chat and type /settings. That will activate a pop-up menu. Select 3 for HUD Advertisement Settings and then 1 when the menu asks if you wish to hide the HUD advertisement. It will disappear when you reconnect to the server.

Is there a rule against clan-stacking?
Clan-stacking is a situation in which members of a specific clan or community, such as ours, all pile onto the same team. It is permissible for other clans’ or communities’ members choose to play together on the same team while in our servers.

Nobody will force you to stop playing with your eGO friends if you are on a team with many other eGO members. However, eGO admins have an immunity to the scrambler plugin: pubs are blocked from switching back to their original team after a scramble or autobalance for five minutes, but admins are immune to this time freeze so they may enforce rules on the other team if necessary. If you, as an admin, are switched by the plugin, you must wait no fewer than five minutes before changing back to your original team unless it is for the purpose of administration and enforcement of the rules. It is an abuse of power to misuse this immunity. Above all, if clan-stacking causes the other team to quit in disgust, be a good sport and help bring those server numbers up again. Besides, most times that eGO members stack a team, they lose anyway.

How do I notify admins of a problem in the server?
There are several ways to contact admins. The most formalistic way is to file a complaint in the DropBox. Note that, because only Leadership can view the DropBox and Leadership is not always checking the DropBox, this is a much slower method of contacting an admin for a server issue.

If there are admins in your server and you believe they have overlooked an infraction of the rules, you can send a message directly to them. To do so, open team chat, type @ and then your message. All admins on your server will see your message:

65ftR

If there are no admins on your server, you can send a global admin call. To do this, open team chat, type & and then your message. All admins across all of our servers will see your message:

65fub

You can also contact an admin through TS3. Admins are often in our rooms. Simply join a room with people in it and ask if there is an admin present to help rectify a problem.

You should try to keep a few admins on your Steam friends list in all situations. Leadership members are always willing to retain people on their friends list and help for these kinds of problems.

There is a hacker in the server and there is no admin around. What do I do?
Fear not, citizen! If you suspect someone is hacking, record a demo of that player’s activity. To do this, go into Spectator, then find the player in question. Open up your console (assigned to the ~ key by default) and type record. When you are finished, type stop in console. In order to activate your console, you must check the appropriate box under Advanced Options on the TF2 Main Menu.

A demo recording should not be longer than five minutes. When you have finished your recording, email the file to [email protected] for a member of Leadership to review. Above all else, do not be a vigilante and confront the alleged hacker. Accusations of hacking are taken very seriously and should only be handled by Leadership or senior admins as appropriate.

I have seen the tag #FFTF on people. What is the FFTF?
The FFTF, or Fast Fill Task Force, is a program instituted by the Division to assist in maintaining the servers. The program operates through captains who direct other FFTF members to those servers that are underpopulated. Once the FFTF squadron has brought in enough players to trigger QuickPlay, its members will trickle out slowly to another server to help populate it. There is no rank requirement to join the FFTF, which you can do by sending a private message to any FFTF captain.

Note: The FFTF is currently inactive. Please help fill servers when possible!

If I can’t actually be here to play, is there some other way I can help with our servers?
We have no problem with people idling in our servers to help get them going. Every little bit helps.

I have a suggestion for the servers, for a new event, or for something else. Whom do I tell?
Usually, a suggestion for a particular program should be forwarded to the advisor supervising that program (i.e. a suggestion for an event should be sent to the EC advisor). You can do this by making a Dropbox post, sending the advisor a private message on the forum, contacting him/her in TeamSpeak, or talking to him/her in Steam chat.

On occasion, an advisor cannot address the issue because it implicates matters of a greater magnitude. If an advisor cannot help you, it should be taken to a division leader. In the rarest of circumstances, the issue will be something that a division leader cannot take care of and the divisional councilor alone can resolve it. However, follow the chain of command and go to advisors, then division leaders, and then the councilor.

Community Managers are responsible for ensuring that all divisions within eGO run perfectly and that our membership is informed and happy. All policy is handed down to the clan by them either directly or by delegation to the Division Leaders.

dl-rank.png

Division Leaders are the highest level of leadership for each division. They are wise, trusted members whose opinions help shape policy within eGO. They report directly to the Community Manager.
