Counter-Strike: Source We Need a Rotation Server!

I've been asking for a rotation server ever since I was an e. Good luck getting one.

If I win the lottery, I will donate $100,000 to EdgeGamers to help them start up and maintain a rotation server. ♥

The goal, as is always our goal, is to continually improve and make the division better.

The reason why CS Leadership lets threads like this occur is because we are extremely interested in what everyone thinks and has to say. This is your division just as much as it is ours.

With that said, it is our (CS Leadership) responsibility to make sure we guide this division properly and accordingly, sometimes we have to make certain decisions, whether they be popular or not.

I will state this. A rotation server is extremely hard. Probably much harder than any one of you can even imagine at this point. We have trouble filling a single map server (24/7), imagine having a rotation server when you start to get 4-8 people in, and then the map changes, noone wants to play it, so everyone leaves. It is almost impossible to build a pub base for a server like that.

Moreover, we've seen this before. What happens in a month or 2 months, when everyone gets tired of the server? Who will fill it? Who will support it? A 24/7 map server takes on average 1-2 months of constant filling (every night) to start gaining traction to really start building a pub base. For a rotation server, that number can easily be tripled or quadrupled. Who has the dedication here? And before you answer that, really ponder the consequences of your decision here.

Gaining a rotation server, for all intents and purposes, would mean dropping a server we already have. Let's say we lose highschool for a rotation server. Great. So now what? You say add de_dust, cs_assault, older versions of maps, etc.

My question to you is: Who's searching for these maps? Literally, how many do you know are actively searching for cs_italy_tactik2 or de_dust2_pro? I ask, because if they're not actively searching to play them, they're not going to join.

The most popular maps in CS:S (dust2, italy, and office) are already 24/7 servers. So which maps do we turn to? Inferno, train, nuke? I can tell you exactly what'll happen. Inferno's on. Everyone who loves inferno joins, plays. Round ends. Server changes to Train. they don't like train, so they leave. Server's empty.

The problem is, players like certain maps, while hating others. I'll be honest, I dislike dust2. Yes, I'll play it, but if I had my choice, I wouldn't. But those that do, that's why we have a 24/7 server for it. The majority of dust2 players, hate maps like office. They are devoted to certain maps and will instantly leave a server if a map comes on that they don't like.

What is the intended solution to this?

^^ very few, except 1, has really even touched upon the various issues brought up and concerns brought up above.

I understand you guys want to try it, but the basic fact is, we have tried it, multiple times, and failed.

That's not to say we won't try it again, but various concerns need to be addressed, as stated above.

The other overwhelming issue lies in the fact that we may or maynot have enough dedicated members to make this rotation server work. You guys still fail to see how much work filling a server is. I see countless announcements to help fill servers come out, and very few people actually respond. I don't see how this leads to any good signs of maintaining a rotational server, which is most definitely multiple times harder to fill and maintain.

Rotation servers aren't that hard to fill as long as they meet certain criteria. I would prefer one over a mg server, no idea how that one came to be.

Is there anyway to make the event server a rotation server on non event periods? even as a trial? Just a thought

The problem with that would be there are weekly events, usually 3-4 days out of the week, so it would disrupt the flow of the "rotation server." But what about an event where we have rotational maps? See how the community responds to it?

I have seen, numerous times in chat, in-game, of pubbers wondering why eGO doesn't have a rotation server. They have voiced an interest in a rotation server and with the attitude and atmosphere of eGO, a rotation server, IF "advertised" correctly OUTSIDE the eGO website, would be successful. Like I've stated before, most players read in-game text chat but tend to ignore it unless it's from an admin or pertains to them. Actively having e's, eG's, and eGO's (those who do want to see the revival/recreation of the rotation server) talking to pubbers and asking about their input. And IF a rotation server is brought back, actively telling others about our new rotation server, with the ideals that either I or someone else who has advocated for a rotation server instilled into the server. Just my thoughts.

As all of you eGOers know, the Day of Defeat division got themselves a sexy new rotation server. Now their gaming is a ton more fun

well ... i've seen the statics of the rotation server, it's not going that well ! went down 14 spots since friday , time to get that fixed, and get the server filled

I would be happy to help advertise the rotation server in-game. I would also play in it pretty much non-stop in order to get it going. I have asked in game if players would be interested and there seemed to be a pretty good contingent who would like it better than the 24/7 maps

What would be the cost to run the server? Just curious?

About 75 cents a slot/month. There are other maintenance costs to it as well. To give you an idea, the Dust2 server has 48 slots which is $36 a month, not counting other costs.

More info can be found here.

I'm pretty sure we get a deal with them because of how many servers we have but that seems like a good estimate.

I want you guys to go and look at the top ranked rotation servers and tell me what maps they have on it and how often said maps are played.

Hmm.. let's see here... de_nuke, nighttime dust, de_highschool, operation metro...

rotation

Rotation server would be great! Piranisi is a popular map also maybe de_nuke as well.

I also think that there is a decent contingency out there that enjoy the eGO players and atmosphere. Its another reason I think that a rotation server would do well. I think that players would come to play a variety of maps in a friendly gaming arena

Or even something as simple as a CSS rotation day or something on the event server. Just regular games of CSS but the maps rotate.

That's up to the Event Coordinators though!
