I've been taking some time off from playing since my last band, Riverside, broke up in November. I've been planning on getting back into it around the end of this month, but my plan is to start my own band. I've had this idea in my head for the longest time, and the success of Flyleaf and Paramore has stoked that fire even more. My idea is a hard rock band along the lines of Theory or Nickelback with a female lead singer, 2 guitars, bass (me), and drums.

This morning I got a call from a friend or a friend of a friend. A local country singer is looking for musicians to help her record her demo. However, she's also trying to put together her touring band and they want me to take the job.... I don't know why, I've never played country.

In this town, country bands make the most money. Even side men. I don't know what to do, take the job that pays or do something I'd enjoy. BOOOOO CONFLICTS!

Take the job. A job is a job! But dont dedicate yourself to it. Then you use the money on the stuff you like(Your band for an example). Life isnt always cake ;)

Take the job, even if you dont like country all that much it will grow on you! (money helps too...)

Every star has jobs in their past they'd rather not talk about.

Do it.

Though see if they'll allow you to wear a paper sack over your head.

*shudders at the country music*

I agree with Lafinass. Virtually no one knows that Sly Stallone did a hardcore porno flick years ago.

Music is music and practice is practice.

I'd take the job that pays. That helps you get your name out there more. Then once that's done start up your own band like you wanted.

OOOOOOH! I can wear a mop over my head and be....

*drum roll*

MOP HEAD!

As everybody said, take the job. It will pay the bills, know a lot of people and who knows maybe this will be the road...

hummmmmm... money.... your name and work on store shelves... touring experience..... making new industry contacts......

To quote Randel from Clerks 2
"It's all building up to something"

whos Sly Stallone?

Sylvester Stallone?

You know, doing Rocky Balboa was dumb- old man boxing against a champion fighter in his prime? Please. Now, Rambo? An old Rambo is still freaking Rambo. Unless he's too arthritic to pull the trigger, I'll watch it.

The trailer for the new Rambo looks totally awesome...go watch it and laugh at the part when he chunks some dude with a 50 cal point blank!

i dont know MOP. i too am a bassist and i cant play for a band that has a completely different style from me. if you dont enjoy making that type of music, then thats not what music is about. but on the other hand you could add your own style and make a completely new sound. i live in houston so i know how popular country music is in texas and you could probably get paid a lot for it, but im not sure, im at a mixed decision.

I say, take the job! Yeah, it'll play the bills and some more..

And guys....... This ain't the RAMBO 5 Thread...

I dunno, we've all seen pictures of MOP...

You sure Blackout?

Dude take the job, you may not like wat ur doing in the job but take it, its all about the cash eh ?!

well i thought about it and as a country band, usually the basists dont get recognized, but also country has a very high chance of success...and if you start a band, you have to start at the bottom and work your way up, and as you know, that takes time...i dunnno man its a tough choice

Country bass typically has a ton of movement so you will probably get a lil bit of a workout. If you cant put your heart into it I wouldnt do it, it will be evident when you play.
Good luck, whatever choice you make.
