I would like to start a thoughtful discussion pertaining to the research of DayZ as a future OP:X supported game. I guess I'll start:

Pros:
When construction is added, we can have bases for eGO members.
eGO members can group together to hunt bandits and police the server.
Could create a completely unique kind of community not possible in other games.

Cons:
No rule enforcing (mainly with swearing). Simply impractical.

What are your thoughts? Should DayZ be tested? Why or why not? Any ideas for making it better?
Please keep the discussion thoughtful and unbiased.

I can guarantee if we were to pick up a DayZ server, there would be full enforcement of eGO policy. Impracticality is not, in our eyes, a reasonable excuse to waive that which we apply to all other pursuits.

That being said, I think DayZ has numerous unique aspects that both benefit, and restrain the game.

I look forward to seeing everyone else's analysis of the state of the games, its future, and the various features you believe enhance the game, and in the pursuit of objectivity, those which you find undesirable.

I know many people have very strong opinions about this game, so keep it civil.

The reason I said that it probably couldn't be enforced was because chat is exclusively local. Unless a pub breaks the rules in front of an admin or someone willing to report it, no one would ever know. Additionally, rules against griefing and trolling would be hard to enforce due to interpretations of how those rules would apply. For instance, griefing could encompass KoS, banditry, or really anything.

We allow cussing on our Battlefield servers as long as it's not in the context of disrespecting another player. The reason they allow it is because it's impractical to attempt to prevent players from hearing foul language in Battlefield because it's built into the game.

I haven't yet played DayZ, but it's definitely on my wish list. I don't know if there's built in cussing, but I do know that there's a built in mechanism to flip somebody the bird. I don't see how that's any different than the cussing in Battlefield. The language that was used in the decision to allow cussing in Battlefield was:

"Effective immediately in BF and all games where eGO can't control foul language that is built into the game, do not W/K/B solely on the use of foul language."

Based on what I said above, I would think that DayZ would fall under the umbrella of this new policy.

Either way, I'm looking forward to playing DayZ, and would be excited to see eGO begin to support it.

That is battlefield's policy, and not Edge-Gamer's policy. Obviously DayZ would require lots of
though by the Leadership team to decide what can and cannot be enforced. Given the early alpha status of the game, policy decisions are a long ways away.

Just wanted to put my 2 cents in. this is a game I absolutely love to play. A good friend bought it for me. It is intense especially when your playing with a group. when I'm not on dods im playing this.

yeah I'm looking for people to play with. Supporting the game would be cool.

I've been desperately looking for group to play with. Played a bunch of the mod but i LOVE the standalone!

There are few cool and few self-praising guys in teamspeak. Self-praisers already have their own team. We could team up with laidback people and let the self-praisers be proud of their gear in Dayz :)

Join the Dayz rooms if you can take my European accent.

There is a DayZ rooms in eGO TS3? A bunch of play from DoD and we usually use a DoD TS room. I will hop on with you Turk when I get a chance, you are on my friends list.

As far as implementation, swearing is a non-issue, if you dont hear it you cant enforce it. However, I think banditry must be permitted, it is part of the gameplay. If we had our own server perhaps we could form factions of bandits and good guys (or somewhere in between) and have others who are on their own and can be recruited, etc. Could be very interesting and loads of fun!

Language violations could be enforced in chat as always and Voip if heard. The main issue I think would be side chat Voip due to trolls, but they can easily be w/k/b.

As far as griefing, well griefing is a bandits life so there is no real way to police that. Also heroes, along with anyone for that matter, can turn into a bandit at any time. For now the objective is to survive anyway you can and want, so that kinda throws griefing out the window. Plus, you spawn away from where you were killed 99% of the time anyways which makes griefing very hard, the person who would be griefing would have to run across the map in search for a chance to find the same person.

If we are able to build camps, bases or whatever I think we would have a good player base within eGO. We could also form bandit hunting parties or vise verse. We just have to wait to see server pop limits and such. I can't wait for the standalone to be finished I'm having a lot of fun right now in alpha.

I just bought the game, actually downloading it at the very moment and I must say that I'm in! Reading the first post waked my interest and I made a decision to get this game.

Do we have any server going on right now?
