Good flight sim gear, joystick, throttle, pedals and the like

One of my friends has gotten me interesting in the upcoming PC game Star Citizen. It looks like a few fun game but I get the feeling that to truly appreciate I will want to invest into some flight control gear. I have not experienced this means of gaming beyond the odd arcade back in the day so I?m hoping you fine citizens of EGO could help me cone across some good gear or at least advise me in the current sellers and what to look for.

So far from my own research I hear a joystick, throttle and rudder pedals are the key components to get. My friends says the Oculus Rift will add to the realism of flying but another more old school friend of mine says it would be too much.

Your friend is dreaming if he's thinking of recommending the Oculus Rift for Star Citizen. SC still has quite a way to go before Beta, much less full release. By then, the Oculus Rift may be a different product by then, but it definitely isn't required and on the high priced side. Right now only the developer kit is available for $300. You can definitely find a good, usable joystick and keyboard option that will more than suffice for your needs.

Right now, if you're looking for an immersive experience until OR is more fine-tuned, go with a tri-monitor setup with a good keyboard and joystick. Pedals aren't really required, but if you want that experience, by all means go for it.

I agree about the Rift but given the fact we are both getting a Fleet Pack each and going in together for the War Pack we want to be able to fly our ships with precision as well as enjoy our investment as much as possible.

You also have to remember buying anything now is going to be a waste of your money since you have a lot of time until SC is released. And time means depreciation, and depreciation means lower price... Not to mention there's the possibility of new, better products being released in the future.
