A Guide to filling tf2 servers
Filling a tf2 server can be a whole lot of fun, but it can aslo be work, its very hard if you dont know what your doing. Im here to tell you all about filling a server, there are a few simple things you need to do to make it easy on yourself.
Rule 1. Don't use items that you know make people rage, like sentries. A sentry is very annoying when there aren't many people on a server. A sentry with an engineer on it is very difficult for a small team to deal with, often making people very angry. The same goes for items like minisentries and the phlog, or even a heavy medic combo. These items or tactics will often make it hard for the team to play the game and have an even game.
Rule 2. Dont stack teams with other members or players you know are good at the game. Getting steam rolled by a team will empty a full server, let alone one with 5 or 6 people on it. Having an even game will often keep players in the server for the exitement of wanting to try and pull ahead of the other team.
Rule 3. Capping, while it may feel great to cap the intel, or the control points it may not always be the best idea to. On a map like harvest where it is 1 cap and then a short count down to the end of the round, just dont cap. Not only will it allow for an ulimited time to get players in the server, but it also takes stress out of wanting to cap the point for your team. Also on a map like foundry last point can quickly be overwhelmed in a close game, if one side wins a fight, so you may not want to rush in at full speed, take your time, give your team highfives over a well won fight, but rushing in gives the other team a bad feeling that they weren't as good or played badly (this can also apply to the second rule where stacked teams will rush in and take last very quickly. If the teams are like that, hang out outside of last, give the other team a fighting chance). Also for all you spy players out there, while spy capping may be fun, it isn't very good if your trying to fill a server.
Rule 4. Have fun. There is no need to try as hard as you can while filling, just hang out and have fun. While it is fun to gib or fill someone full of holes, its not always the best when you are filling. Making even 1 player rage can hurt the whole fill, so just take off your tryhard pants, and mess around. An exception to this is when the pubs have their tryhard pants on, then you may be super cereal.
Rule 5. DONT ALL LEAVE AT ONCE, this is probably the most important rule. If everyone leaves the server together then the number of players will most likely drop below quickplay level, so just wait for it to be your turn, and then when its 10 v 10 you can leave.
I hope this has helped you become a better filler
