Some people have discovered almost a x2 boost of framerate due to TF2 was only utilizing one core. Here's the tip:

When you start up Team Fortress 2 and arrive at the menu>

go to your options and search for enable console.

Next open up the console by pressing the (~) key located on the left side of the 1 key. A text box should then appear.

Next simply type in Mat_queue_mode 2

Quad core users should type in Fps_max 60 (Without locking the framerate cap the frames seems to be almost to high and causes sluggish in frames. However the only thing I notice about this tweak was that your weapon will sometimes appear and reappear but for the performance I feel it's worth it.)

This command will function TF2 to use your second core rather then the default one.

Enjoy.

It didn't work for many of the people on Canyon. In fact, it made the graphics stutter and not work right at all.

And, actually, the description of the cvar is:

"mat_queue_mode" = "-1"
- The queue/thread mode the material system should use: -1=default, 0=synchronous single thread, 1=queued single thread, 2=queued multithreaded

It doesn't have anything to do with multi-core, specifically, just which threading model is used.

Quad Core: not only did it not do anything for me, the sniper scope zoomed in glitches. on Mat_queue_mode 4
Stutters the game on Mat_queue_mode 2

Hmmmm. Well I put it Mat_queue_mode 1 at first, and had 64 fps looking at somehing, then I put Mat_queue_mode 2 and I had 102 FPS.

If you dont know what your doing this is kinda like making a homemade bomb. It might blow up in your face so you should be careful.

I've have tried this before and i do not recommend it, you MAY get a boost in fps but doing so makes the game unstable and most likely crash!

Best to not mess with it if you like playing for more than 5 min.

You want a boost in performance? Sorry thats cost some $!
