Laptop Disconnect

Hmmm, don't know if this is the proper place to post but my laptop keeps disconnecting and then reconnecting to my Internet. I Googled and it told me to go to Start --> Control Panel --> Network & Sharing Center (I have Windows 7) --> Change Adapter Settings. After I clicked "Changed Adapter Settings", it told me to right click "Wireless Network Connection" and then to disable, wait a few seconds, and then re-enable. Did all this but still, my laptop will disconnect and reconnect randomly to my Internet.

Any solutions to this? Sorry again if this the wrong place to post this.

I've been getting this lately as well. My Google search turned up that the Realtek wireless card is crap and to replace it. I have a Toshiba Satellite with Realtek RTL8723AE Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC. It was advised to replace it with an Intel Wireless card. I just haven't been able to find where my card is in my computer and have been unwilling to just take it apart to find it. Check what wireless card you have and Google potential problems with it.

I hate to say it but there a lot of reasons why your wireless connection can be dropped. Here are some possibilities to think about:

1. Distance from your wireless router
2. Other wireless devices operating on the same frequency or channels (other wireless networks in the area using the same channel)
3. Wireless is wireless and other devices like wireless phones, microwaves, etc. can interfere with connectivity
4. Your wireless router needs a power cycle (unplug for 30 seconds and plug power back in)
5. The wireless router is older and does not support the wireless type of your laptops NIC. For example the laptop NIC uses G and the wireless router has an early version of G. I had this issue when I purchased an iPad.
6. Are other wireless devices being dropped also? If so then it could be any of the above or the router is going bad.
7. Your wireless NIC is going bad.

I know that is a pretty long list of items but those are all very real possibilities and is at least a list to work from and troubleshoot. Hope this list helps you troubleshoot your wireless connectivity issues.

Could be another possibility - Can you check your router/modem's settings and see if it says 'Walled Garden' under ISP or w/e?

1) The router is in my room which, the Internet guy said, "Is the center of the house"
2) Well, Charter, which supplies Internet and cable for the area I live in, would be in all the other houses surrounding me, I would assume
4) Ah, haven't done a power cycle in a couple of months
5) The router we got in September 2013, when me and my housemates moved into our rental house

I'll ask around if other people are dropping as well. Thank you!

As for FireHazard, I'm not entirely sure how to check that

And _Sushi, if by "drivers" you mean my laptop, then I bought it in summer of 2013 so the "drivers" should be fairly new.

Btw, I have an ACER ASPIRE V3-551-8887 w/ AMD Quad-Core Processor w/ Turbo CORE Technology

I'm not super tech savy or computer knowledgeable so please bear with me. :/

I would look for an update to your drivers. I would also try running a hard wire (ethernet cable) from the router/modem to your laptop and see if the internet still disconnects and reconnects. If it does, it's most likely a router issue.

I did this for my Charter service; my router is a Motorola Surfboard router, 100 MBP/s down and 30 up is what I pay for. Just recently the router would disconnect for a few seconds and reconnect; all of the PCs in the house (except those running off Cat-5e [ethernet] cable) disconnected as well. The charter guy came out, replaced our router, and the issue persisted. The fix? He went under the street and had to rerun networking cable from the 'internet box' in the middle of the street to our house.

I hope that isn't the case with you, but it might be worth a shot. Definitely try connecting your laptop to a wire, you can get them for 99 cents at tech stores. Don't need a super fancy cable for testing purposes.

It was my router. LOL. Just unplugged it, waited 30 seconds, then plugged it back in. All better now.

Thank you everyone!

Suhweet! Glad I could help you find the problem!

Or... describe the problem you already found a solution too! :D
