So I just recently decided to retry the ready boost with a thumb drive, noticing a bit of a performance boost. Anyhow, vac paranoia set in as I accidentally hit it while moving around with the mouse and it disconnected, freezing the game for a couple of seconds and then the thought came to me all of a sudden.
I googled a bit to see if my paranoia was just exaggerated due to the all nighter I pulled, but something caught my eye.

However, a Valve employee did respond. So, here I am asking you techies to summon up if it's possible? For some reason I always get these paranoia's :chair:.

So. You crash once in game and you think its instantly a VAC ban? Have you even tried reopening the game and maybe playing it? Maybe try not using stuff through the thumb drive?

Also.

When did they start banning people for using ready boost as a cache source? Unless I am missing something...

Well, think about it. VAC scans the memory for anything that's changed, it's how it allocates cheat signatures. In the old HL/DOD/CS days faulty RAM triggered a VAC ban because of this. So having readyboost on a flash drive helps, or supposedly helps, alleviate pressure on reading and writing onto the hard drive; at least that's what I've gathered. It's actually helped in a small performance boost in-game for me. Although Valve fixed the issue and a Valve employee at the end of that forum post stated such a thing couldn't exist, it's probably just me being paranoid. At the time I noticed it hiccuping once it got disconnected and my mind went straight to the thought of how RAM was being accessed to the readyboost drive. Though now I hardly doubt such a scenario could happen I got scared and decided to look up on it.
