Here are the specs im planning for, if anyone sees any problems with it please do tell! (im buying this from IBuyPower.com)

Is this a good deal? Price could change by time I buy it.
 
Decent deal, but you could probably build it yourself for a lot cheaper. If you don't feel like building one, though, that seems pretty solid. Just wondering, where are you getting it from?
 
I had a friend who got a computer from that site a while ago and hasn't had any problems so far. About Alienware... They pretty much just put the parts in a pretty case and slap a crazy high price on it.
 
I think the case I chose is much prettier than the alienware cases.
 
Most likely. Along with a bad sense of fair pricing, the folks over at Alienware seem to have very bad taste. =/
I still don't see how Alienware got so popular when there's so many better alternatives.
 
personally i would go with a core 2 duo instead of the 64 x2 because i have heard rumors that they will be phasing out the am2 socket boards. it just leaves you with less upgrade options in the future. also if they have an 8800 gt for not much more go with that but the 3870 clocks just fine
 
I was looking at some comparisons and the 3870 seems to do better with first person shooters while the 8800 is more of a rts card...
 
I would stay away from AMD, theyre stinking right now.

Even their new Quad core phenom isn't doing that well.

Stick to an Intel Core2 Duo, along the lines of the new 8400 or something. Very reasonably priced.

It is true that the AM2 socket is phasing out. AMD is preparing to roll out the AM3 socket set sometime this year or next. In the interim, they have released the AM2+ socket which supports some of the AM3 features (such as HyperTransport 3.0) but not all (such as DDR3 support). Keeping that in mind, even AM3 processors will be able to run on AM2 boards (however AM2 processors will not be able to run on AM3 boards). This is due to the fact that AM3 processors will have memory controller support for both DDR2 and DDR3 memory.

So, AM2 is a good socket that will last a while. Going for an AM2+ board will give you support for better features though and are available today.
