Want to be heard?

eGO Leadership,
Upon hearing we were using Magma I went to their forms and started seeing what mods were out there. I think that these mods would be useful on the server attached you will find the mods the links and my thoughts as to how I would configure them. As well was why I think they would be useful and good for the server.

All Log 2014-04-01
http://gomagma.org/community/index.php?resources/all-log.38/

What is this mod:
This mod is basically a super logging mod that will allow for more admin logging and be able to catch cheaters, Admin abusers, bad eGO members, bad Pubbers, and handle them accordingly.

Why do I think this is usefulGood for the server:
I think this would be a good admin tool it will allow for much better logging of what is going on the server.

My Thoughts on Configuration:
None

TpFriend 2.1
http://gomagma.org/community/index.php?resources/tpfriend.82/

What is this mod:
This mod is basically a teleport to you friend?s mod.

Why do I think this is usefulGood for the server:
I think this would be a good tool for players that are new or trying to play with their friends, as many of us are aware it is sometimes very hard to track down exactly where your friends are on the server. This would allow you to request a tp to your friends and then poof you are there. Configs would need to be tight on this one to avoid abuse.

My Thoughts on Configuration:
The teleport should be limited to once a day (every 24 real hours). I also think that how long it takes to teleport should be fairly long so that you can?t teleport out of battle say 1-5 min for example. So once the tp has been accepted it is 1-5 min before you actually TP.

N4 Recycle Items
http://gomagma.org/community/index.php?resources/n4-recycle-items.19/

What is this mod:
You can recycle your unused item and get back some material.

Why do I think this is usefulGood for the server:
I think that it would be useful to be able to get some resources out of items you find and would not normally want to use.

My Thoughts on Configuration:
I think that the default rate for recycling should be something like 25-50% so you get only some of the resources back.

I like the All Log idea.

TP friend will most likely never happen as it can be abused. Such as someone running naked to get to a location to fight another group. Once he makes it, everyone can TP to him fully geared, including his own gear. It will put people at a disadvantage more so than helping noobs.

Recycle is an interesting idea. I believe there are already enough materials around that it wouldn't be needed unless your items were about to break. That should not happen in our servers.

Tublin thanks for the response... i do agree that it could be compleately abused... so the config would be interesting... if it was implemented it would have to have like a super long coold down 30 days or something retarded...

eGO Leadership,
TpFriend 2.1

I think /location which gives x,y coordinates would be better. And then the player can refer to something like rustmaps.net themselves.

Yes,

Thank you. A few people have asked for that mod; however, quite a few more have mentioned that it takes away from the survival feel. Getting lost is part of the game.

yes getting lost is part of the game however the mod will allow for those times when you get insanely lost that you can find your way back... or when you are trying to meet up with your party you can... think about this in a survival situation the first thing i would do is craft a compass... i mean we can craft a perfect weapons like they were milled at a factory no miss fires nothing... what is this Gilligan island you can craft a nuclear reactor out of coconuts but not patch a 3 foot hole in a boat... the location option just makes it so that you can have a basic compass...

All great ideas guys. The server should be coming up soon. Once up we will start looking into each of these mods and add them as needed. None of these will require a wipe once installed.

Once concern I got that has to do with PVP. I know this is going to get me flamed from those who kill and are bandits and whatnot [Not naming names for obvious reasons] and probably end up disrespecting me in the server [especially since I'm in the Minecraft division to which people compare MC to Rust for some very odd reason, probably thinking that anyone who plays MC doesn't know how PVP or Shooter games work], but this is just a concern I got.

I understand PVP will be 100% enabled on the server. That I get. But... is the server meant for eGO players only or pubs as well? And isn't eGO about recruiting new members in a way as well? So that the community can grow?

Problem is - Day 2 of the server, and already there's been massive unhappiness of the server. Most of it because of bandits/PVP, but again, I get the whole PVP thing. However, this'll for sure scatter pubs away. Probably already has, actually. Like this one guy who asked if the community was nice [as in the server community, not eGO] and obviously the truth came out and some said it's mixed, which is due to bandits and massive unfair pvp [Kevlar vs. Naked, for example], but that there are some "nice" people [Which I don't believe, really. Maybe only like 2 - 4 people]. This can potentially drive this person away.

Sure, "it's only one player, who cares?" But think about it - that'll stack up. There will be 1, then 3, then 5, then 10, and then bam, only eGO players are playing on the server.

There's even a group of 3 bandits who are just nonstop killing everyone. Like I mentioned above, not naming names, but one of them is bound to see this and see/call me a a whiny pathetic person. Sure, whatever, I don't care.

What I care is making/having the server enjoyable! Not a pain in the butt to play on because of getting constantly killed for no reason. I mean, I'm sure there's already been a player who doesn't have a house yet and yet gets killed every time he has the chance to. And this is barley day 2. Basically, if you weren't here on day 1, you have a smaller chance of surviving/gathering material.

So with all this said, of course the question is now "Well, what do you expect us to do? What can we do? What's the solution? Rust is a PVP game and that's that". Which, again, I understand.

But for the server's sake can't we all just get along or at least give pubs/noobs a chance? I don't know if there's a plugin for something like a "Grace Period" or not being able to kill noobs or whatever that may be helpful, but if there is, maybe consider it?

Other than that... there's really no physical solution. Only mental solutions - to which we cannot control. If someone has the need to kill everyone, so be it. It's up for the players themselves to consider whether to give people a chance, or be a jerk and kill everyone along with being greedy and taking every piece of loot and keep killing some more.

P.S. There's already a lot of people accusing that hacks are being used as well. That's not good nor healthy for the server, either. Sure it's mainly people "whining" about how they got killed and whatnot but... it shouldn't hurt to check on a player multiple [emphasize the word "multiple"] people accuse of hacking.

P.P.S I understand maybe the one and only and final solution for those who are unhappy about the server is to go find another server to play on. This I also understand, but all I ask is to understand what my concern is about and that's it. I don't expect anything to be done, but I feel like this whole topic about PVP needed to be said, but with more detail [as I know PVP was already a subject that was brought up]

SonsOfLiberty i agree with you completely... we will only survive if we can get the pubbers to join us on the server. Free killing fresh spawns does not help. my understanding is that this is leadership that is doing this. we had5+ pubbers leave last night for this very reason. keep in mind we all are wearing tags. so we do need to conduct our selfs in a non eGO manner.

PVP protection for new players has been enabled (no inventory loss for 60 minutes).

Apart from that, this is a survivalist PVP game. Competition for scarce resources (e.g. town crates, resource nodes) will always lead to conflict. Find a PVE server if this competition is not something you are looking for. I'm not sure why you would play Rust without the depth that PVP adds though.

I do have sympathy for true fresh spawns in the game (hence the new PVP protection). I do not have any sympathy for PVP between established players of the server though.

Just a question, not sure if you've checked in to this or not yet. I was wondering how it would be fair to have an airdrop and have someone under spawn protection get it. How is that going to play out? Kind of unfortunate that we wouldn't be able to kill whoever is at the air drop. Just a thought.

Reccomendation For Remove Tool -NumbNutsJunior

Recommendation - With the /destroy tool I was wondering if you can make it give you some of the resources back such as a wood wall if you break the wall you get 30 wood of the 40 or whatever just think that some of the object smashed should be salvageable. Thank you

-NumbNutsJunior

Personally I don't see an issue with this. Many similar games (such as the Dayz Epoch mod) have a removal option that does not yield your stuff back.

It is one thing if you make a mistake (just have to endeavor to be careful). Also if you gather materials in order to raid someone's base, and say you staircase to the top. Then at the end you would be able to recover all of your staircases etc intact, essentially costing you nothing in materials, which seems a little OP.
Ya but you can set it to give lets say a wall cost 40 wood give us 25 wood back in a real situation some wood would be salvageable
