Signature Gifs

I don't know if this is the right area to post this, but how would I get a gif as my signature? I went into my avatar and posted it but it was a non moving image. When I save it, it says invalid URL. I have no idea what I am doing, I have seen several people with gifs under their names I just want to know how to do it.

Ah I remember when I had this question rumbling around in my head before I stumbled upon a goldmine of knowledge. It says invalid url? Hmm I'm thinking you selected the option of opening a new window/page with the gif. Instead of dealing with all that trouble, go to tinypic (site) and upload your gif (make sure to select the video option). When it finishes uploading, copy the link in the IMG Code for Forums & Message Boards <----

Of course you can upload a gif from your computer and all but that doesn't really work out to well as the max is 500x100 (?) which does not bring the beauty of your gif fully. You could resize your gif to fit those sizes but again... the quality gets quite bad. Ah.. started going on a tirade sorry 'bout that. When you copy the thing I told you, just put that in your signature box and preview it. If it works and satisfies you, save it. Message me if you need any help or I wasn't clear enough

Edit: Just realized you mentioned avatar - I don't think I've seen a moving avatar yet on eGO forums but I have seen it on the profile picture. To have a moving profile picture, just make sure the file size isn't exceeding the told amount.
