Hot Dish tutorial

Random topic emerged on teamspeak tonight: Q-tip and Dodgy hadn't heard about the awesome mid-west tradition of "hot-dish."

From the splendor of the of the Ohio valley to the endless big-sky expanse of Montana, the term "hot-dish" means either "awesome delicious eats that'll taste awesome and fill me up proper" or "casserole." Go ahead and look up "hot dish" on wikipedia if you need a history lesson (nod to Superglue).

Anyway, hot-dish is super easy to make. If you have an oven, a stove-top, a casserole dish, and a saute pan, you're all set. I used the following recipe for my first attempt at hot-dish and it rocked. (Q-tip, feel free to mix in pickled jalapenos before baking).

They're all super-easy and relatively cheap to make.

I was born and raised in Ohio and I can say I have never heard the term "hot dish" before in my entire life. I think the word everyone uses is casserole.

Also, I very much resent the phrase the "meh" of Ohio.
 
I'm sorry Chili. I was trying to be funny and I inadvertently offended you. I've only ever been to Dayton and it was unfair of me to judge the entire state by my experiences in the one city.

Regardless: casserole == hot-dish, yeah.
 
dude hot dish is the poop. It's like a princess moved to the midwest and started a factory just for an amazing dish of food.
 
see down here in the south we call em pies not casseroles or hot dishes and we fry pretty much everything lol

Which South are you from? Pie is Pie (and sometimes its cake) but it is NOT a Casserole!

Green Bean Casserole = Teh Yum!

Green Bean Pie = SOME REALLY MAD KIDS COME DESSERT TIME!

I was born and raised in Tennessee and never heard those referred to as pie. If I was offered pie, it better be chocolate or pecan. Not that.

However, I bet that stuff is great when you are drunk. Come to think of it, I bet a drunk invented it.

Thats more of a middle south, I live in florida was raised in Texas and Born in Georgia. Your Middle is you call any sort of cassarole a pie.

We call them casseroles here in South Texas. I highly recommend the King Ranch chicken casserole. Make it and you'll thank me later (assuming you don't mess it up!)
 
I live in TX now and I've always called them casseroles but I lived in NC and SC as a kid and some people called them pies.

Texas has Frito Pie though... which isn't really a pie at all. lol

see now ya'll know i wasn't lying bout us calling some casseroles a pie i grew up in the kitchen with my aunt cooking southern home cooking

btw my favorite snack round YER IS CAJUN BOILED PEANUTS
