Shintaro Kisaragi, a HikiNEET who shut himself inside his room for 2 years, had been living his life normally until he met a cyber girl named Ene, who appeared in his computer screen when someone anonymously sent him a mysterious e-mail one year ago. One day, Ene messes with Shintaro's PC which causes him to go outside for the first time in two years.

I'm a little torn on this one. I've been looking forward to this series for a long time, about a year, and having read all the source material I have some preconceptions about what this should look like. It's good, and does a lot of things that I really like, but at the same time does some things that really bother me. Still, I think that Shaft has done a good job so far, and I'm excited for where the series will go.

This is why I tend to stay away from manga and VNs(one of the reasons). If I have no preconceived notions as to how a series should be, I can't be disappointed.

I love the fact that it's monogatari style. Makes me want to rewatch Nise and Nekomono. Also, Ene keeps reminding me of Hatsune Miku (appearance wise, which is no surprise).

Oh man, the first episode was so great. I really liked what they did with the Heat Haze, though I'm pretty sure nobody who hasn't looked at any of the source material will understand in the slightest. I also liked how they included Hiyori and Hibiya's backstory, and Konoha is simply fun to watch in the background while everyone else is talking and doing stuff in the foreground. I hope the next episode is just as strong!

On a serious note, even though I think this was the best episode so far, there was a lot of room for improvement. I seriously hope they fix this for the blu ray like they've fixed the opening on every single episode. I'm not even joking, the opening has been slightly different every single time, with the most drastic changes between the first and second episode.

I'm really, really hoping that they don't just do one route or the other, but do something in between where he starts off on red but falls to black, or vice versa. We'll see, but that's my hope, and considering Jin helped work on this himself, it is more than possible.

So, I've complained in the past that Shaft has been cutting corners on this one, but they did an amazing job on the Lost Time Memory song insert. It's the first of the songs that I thought was better than the original, and it looks like they put a considerable amount of effort into the animation for that song. True, some of it is copied from the manga/light novels, but the original animation is on par with some of the best Shaft has ever done.
