New ssd

I would personally go for something a little bigger.

Only $30ish more for double the storage. Coming in at under $.50/gb isn't bad. Maybe slightly less benchmark performance, but real world I am sure is unnoticeable.
 
If you want the best, the M500 isn't an option.

Otherwise it's fine.
 
I also want to know what you feel the "best" is as well. You guys have known me on the forums for how long now? You should remember that I am open to all suggestions. You guys have to remember that this is the 1st time that im investing in the ssd technology, so I believe that Huckleberry is thinking in my area. If my finances improve next year, then I will gladly upgrade to something better. Always looking forward to seeing what technology comes out every year, after all.

I agree with huckleberry. The M500 is an amazing SSD -- I own the 480GB versiion and it has served me flawlessly so far -- and last I checked, it was getting better reviews and benchmarks than darn near all other SSDs and at a better price.

I admit I last checked a few months ago, so maybe things changed.

Not only is this an ignorant response to the question above - The two price tags on both of these items are different. A good $10-15 difference. This obviously means nothing either since they compared a 900GB SSD to 1000GB SSD and the performance between the two are different.

Just get the crucial drive.

Its ignorant because you are comparing 2 differently priced equipment and 2 different storage capacities and 2 different write speeds. No one was or is saying that the crucial is better than the 840 evo. They were just telling him to go with the cheaper, higher capacity with a still high performance for less.
 
The M500 still outperforms the EVO in some categories. In the categories where the EVO does win out, it's in places where you aren't going to notice the difference in day to day life.

IMO, like Cloakedsphere said, it's better to go with a cheaper SSD with higher capacity and near-equal performance and that is what I would suggest the OP do -- but that's up to them.

You're missing the point.

If he can go with a cheaper solution while still holding similar performance, Why would he not choose the cheaper one?

No one here is denying that the Samsung SSD is a better SSD than the crucial. I dont know why you think posting benchmarks of the two are going to prove something.

They both have similar performance and IMO - The crucial drives are great to have. If you want the higher performing drive and wish to spend the extra cash for an ok performance gain, get the samsung.
