So yesterday I was playing on the 24/7 donner server and my ping spiked to 120, normally i ping in the 60s. It's remained consistently between 100-130 since then.

I clearly see other people in the server pinging normally, checked my internet to make sure no one was downloading or anything like that, contacted my isp to make sure that was ok (which i knew it was because i'm only having this problem with eGO servers for some reason) so i ran a tracert to the server.

at hop 13, when it connects to an ip owned by softlayer technologies inc, and all subsequent hops, that's where the ping spikes.

is anyone else having a similar issue? did anything change recently with the server? or does anyone have any ideas how i can fix it?

again, problem is only occuring on eGO servers

I had similar issue last year where my ISP would connect into Atlanta and around that time I believe they had nasty weather and power line problems and due to that fact my ping would go outrageously high. The only thing you can do is sit back and hope for a fix. Around a week or two later, the connection was smooth.

You could check the IP location of the said connection hop and ask the ISP if there are any problems in that area.

My ISP told me it seems to be a routing issue and told me to contact softlayer technologies inc and when i did they told me they'll help me just as soon as i buy a server from them lol

but the fact that yours got better a week or 2 later sounds promising

I've had intermittent lag-spike issues this past week in DoD:S, DotA 2, and War Thunder. They never last that long (1 minute or 2), but they're very annoying.

Instead of trying to track down the problem, I'm going to ignore it and hope it goes away.

The only other thing I can think that it may be is the Message Of the Day (motd) We were having a massive amounts of people timing out. Some were able to rid themselves of the problem by disabling the motd in console, and I believe just recently the ads were changed, and I believe I have seen a drop in time outs. I dont know if its related or not, but that is the only thing I can think of that is different. I dont have the command off the top of my head, but I know meg and or monkey have it, perhaps they can post it here and you can give it a try

I know the html motd was causing some crashes and/or disconnects, but hadn't heard of it causing lag spikes. Either way, you can try the following in console:

cl_disablehtmlmotd 1

I found it without my isp, ran a tracert and whois for the ip address where the latency spiked, it's softlayer technologies inc and seems to be a routing issue, problem is, they won't talk to me unless i buy something from them haha

will try disabling motd and see if the latency goes down

This is what I suspected when I googled SoftLayer Technologies Inc. I wasn't able to find anything on this site though naming them as the host so I wasn't sure.

Help us eGO admins, you're our only hope!

Well, usually when I have a tech question, I have to ask either Zer0, or many times the best thing to do would be to start a thread in the drop box- earmark it for the tech team, many times, those smart fellas have ideas that many of us would never think of
