Computer randomly freezes

Hey guys,

I have a store-bought computer (it's 7 years old, could be on its last legs) in the family room that is having issues.

It just randomly freezes- no blue screen or anything, it just becomes frozen and the only way to recover is to hold down the power button. It happens anytime while the computer is on. Sometimes I can get on for a couple minutes and then it will freeze. Sometimes even an hour. Sometimes it freezes at the BIOS screen (!!!) without even getting to windows.

Do you guys have any ideas?

Hard drive ok? You hear any clicking going on too often? Maybe give it a scan for adware and viruses using malwarebytes and see if that works. Also update the drivers. If you can't do this without getting the Blue screen then I recommend going into safe mode by clicking f8 when you start up your machine before you get to the windows loading animation after you turn on your machine.

Could be an overheating issue. Make sure your temps arent creeping up too high.
