Some of you may have noticed my erratic presence lately. I've gone away for my birthday not too long ago, followed by a week in Los Angeles, and then most recently I went away for Lawyercon. Since, surprisingly, some of you missed me, I thought I'd share some of the photos I took in LA. Pardon the dreadful quality of the camera on the Nintendo 3DS.

Entrance to the Chinese Theater, which is every bit as impressive as you probably imagined and more.

HNI_0009_zps9cb0c246.jpg

The Hollywood Bowl. That indistinct white thing on the farthest mountain is the Hollywood sign.

Sunny, downtown LA. This is on the opposite side of the street from the Walt Disney Theater.

Sean Connery's prints outside the Chinese Theater. The man is so intense, he put his feet right in the wet cement.

Part of a large mural in the central dome of the Griffith Observatory. Note Atlas holding up the world to the left, the Pleiades beside him, Zeus seated on his throne, and Aphrodite relaxing on the right.

The United States Capitol and Washington Monument, built entirely out of Lego bricks. Legoland California is a small engineering wonder.

HNI_0088_zpseff93278.jpg

The Eiffel Tower next to the MGM Grand Resort, also constructed out of Lego bricks.

HNI_0092_zpsde93d7ff.jpg

Lego Empire State Building. Note the scale of these buildings by the people in view.

HNI_0005_zpsa25913af.jpg

Lego Golden Gate Bridge. Lego San Francisco is nearby. It's all built on a slope, so apparently City Escape was topographically correct.

HNI_0008_zps0aa62aba.jpg

I wonder how long it took to build this out of Legos.

I think it took a long time to build this out of Legos.

A trip to the Getty Villa reveals Demeter giving grain and the chariot to Triptolemus. Triptolemus appears to be a bad driver because it looks like he's about to run over Kore.

DON'T BLINK

HNI_0042_zps7933b97a.jpg

Hercules punching the Nemean Lion in the face, proving he was the mythological equivalent of Chuck Norris.

HNI_0059_zps7f9598b1.jpg

Hermes in a mercurial mood.

HNI_0066_zps7cdc63ec.jpg

Roman Emperor Tiberius, wondering why I'm taking a picture of him despite the fact that there is a "No Photography" indicator on the corner of the pedestal on which he is standing.

HNI_0072_zpsb7dcc0a1.jpg

The outer peristyle of the Getty Villa. If you stand at the far end of it, you can see into the Pacific Ocean forever.

Speaking of not blinking, an amphora depicting Medusa, specifically her eyes.

The gateway to Paramount Studios. About fifty feet to the right is the bench Tom Hanks sat on in Forrest Gump. If you make a wish while passing under the archway, it's supposed to come true.

This is a handful of the photos I took. Feel free to ask me for more.

And if you make a wish while crawling under the bench, you never know what you gonna get.

seriously though, the 3DS camera makes these pictures look badass. I know it sounds sarcastic but the vintage quality looks nice, especially on the picture of the Hollywood Bowl.

Makes me miss living in Southern California. Some great shots here. I bet you had a wonderful time. Thanks for sharing with us. Would love to see more pics. Hope you had a nice birthday, too.

And hope things went well at "Lawyercon". hehe Did anyone cosplay as Vinny Gambini? ;)

Happy Birthday Cael and I try to picture you with a 3ds taking pictures :P People look at me when I do it with mine

Imagining cael taking pics with his 3DS at lawyercon is pretty hip

Legoland was a lot of fun when I went there about 10 years ago. That itty-bitty rotunda is so cute. Glad to have you back, bossman.

Looks like you had an awesome time. Thanks for sharing! :D

Dude that is amazing! You should have become a photographer :p

Caelestis... I oughta shoot you for making that god-awful "pun" in the topic title. It was so bad I had to put pun in quotations.

Nice pics Cael! I've always wanted to go to L.A. Hope you had a good time :P

I guess there's a con for everything....

Nice pics. Cali's a beautiful place.

Lego Times Square. Notice the advertisement for the stage play "Miss Take," modeled on the graphic for "Miss Saigon."

HOO goes there?

Care to take a dip?

This is a shot of the lighting system above the set for the Dr. Phil show. Apart from the fact that it is the most technologically advanced system in Paramount Studios, it also looks like the set above Paradigm City (maybe two people get that reference).
