I was devoted to the Strand server for 2+ years and it had a consistent fun community that frequented its roster. To me, it has for a long time seemed that the Strand server was fairly busy and active, yet the rotation server doesn't appear as popular.

Am I incorrect?; does anyone know the actual statistics in comparing the old Strand server traffic versus the Rotation server? Is there any chance to revive a server dedicated to the D-Day beaches?

Avalanche is fun, but it's a speed forced small map. Strand had a distance and vastness that allowed such different gameplay and teamwork, and in that way was bigger than any other map that exists. It's a shame it gets minutes of attention on a rotation server when such a map requires hours of repetition to develop team familiarity, map understanding, and strategy.
 
I hear ya, Vasili.. the problem with the strand server is the regular players that kept it populated, just kind of stopped. towards the end, it sat empty most of the time, and when we would try to get it started, it would be 3 axis versus 1 allied player, with 2 snipers and an MG killing off any chance for the allies to get going. When full, it is fun, but getting it started was a nightmare. Almost all of the regulars moved on to other games or other servers.

For a while, we had strand on the rotation server as well, and if we had 18 players, and the map changed to strand, all but one or two would leave.

The rotation server is still fairly new, its too early to dig it a grave yet, but does seem to be popular with some of the comp players and others who like a new map every 20 minutes or so.

I think the rotation server is going to pick up Omaha soon, that has a similar feel to it, although not the same.

I think we all miss some of our old servers. I never really liked Strand but I do think it's a good map if you like the kind of gameplay it offers. I still miss playing Flash with Goomba and Hill Jack. :(

The best thing we can do to keep our servers alive is to play in them. After all, in a few months, Strand went from being eGO's #3 DoD:S server in July 2013 to being removed in January of this year.

I miss Anzio, the rotation server dies by the time we get to it.
 
Yeah, I miss Strand too... x_x 'used to play it a lot when I first joined up in 2012. 'was a good map.
 
I LOVE STAND !!!! MAybe we should have Strand Night?? And play sounds from ww2 movies in the background???? And Strand it out all night !!!
 
Once the regulars (Lupus&Bunny&Dbad) stopped playing along with regular pubs it was nearly impossible to fill with just members due to the nature/hate of the map... personally I really loved to play strand sometimes. Only map I played rifle the most.
 
Hey everyone who has a name I remember, I hope all is going well.

Saw this thread and just wanted to comment on Stormy's chart.
One of the problems DoD has always had is the player base. IT DOES NOT INCREASE... Whenever we had a large push for a specific server we would always see the other non Avalanche servers take a hit. Early 2013 Kalt and Charlie had a bump and Anzio took a hit, mid 2013 Kalt had a large bump and Charlie took a dive. We were simply taking from the right hand and holding it in the left shifting bodies and not really increasing much.

Lots of us tried to get these servers going for a long time but like I said the player base is not going anywhere. We even tried the FF on Anzio to bring in a new element to eGO DoD in hopes that it would bring players from other servers such as FF Argentan servers from other highly ranked groups/servers. Problem is most people that play DoD like the people they have been playing with for years and are not in the habit of jumping from eGO to clan X servers or the reverse.

I miss Strad too. :(
And is not the worst map in DOD ! It's not an easy map and many people don't like for that.
 
bring back strand

strand was an awesome map. and it looks like now there are 2 empty rotation servers? put one on strand maybe it will fill up after being off for a while now
