PTT key freezes game (Source-games)

So I've been having this problem for a bit where on occasion if I push my PTT (Push-to-talk) key for in-game voice it'll make my game freeze for either a second or around 14 seconds, and so far this happens just in Source games (L4D2, CSS, TF2, DODS)

If I recall correctly, It started around sometime after I updated from Win8 to 8.1 so I was wondering if that may have something to do with it. I've used the same headset before on a computer with Win7 and it worked fine.

Any help would be appreciated!

Is this push to talk in game or on team speak?
Have you tried reinstalling your microphone drivers?
Are you using a built in, USB, or normal microphone?

- In-game. Teamspeak works fine.

- No I haven't..and to be honest I'm not entirely sure how to do so.

- I'm using a Creative SoundBlaster Alpha headset - which has 2 options of plugging it in with - USB (which also has sound drivers) or the 2 jacks. I'm using the 2 jacks because when I tried the USB on this computer the surround sound actually kicked in when it didn't on my previous computer (which it worked fine on) and I wasn't entirely fond of it (after which I uninstalled the drivers that came with plugging it in via USB)

All that was prior to updating to Windows 8.1 though. Prior to 8.1, if I recall correctly it worked fine.

Update -

Still having this problem, and so far I can confirm its still only occurring in Source Games - DODS, CSS, GMOD, TF2, L4D2 (These are the only source games I play).

Any other game, including CSGO, DOTA2 and many others that I've played and use a mic on works fine.

I'm guessing it has something to do with either when I updated from Win8 to 8.1, or some update Valve did around that time (or possibly both?)

The only real 'fix' for it that I've been doing is just repeatedly tapping my PTT key but it still slips in the occasional freeze, but not often.

Any help would be appreciated!

Note: I haven't tried reinstalling microphone drivers yet since I'm still not exactly sure how to do that

No to both. Also just to clarify - Teamspeak isn't what's having this issue, the games are.

I'll test both in Admin-mode though tonight.

EDIT: Still happens with Admin-mode.

I honestly dont know then. Are you positive you dont have things running the background while playing the game? Remap your PTT key to a new key binding? If it still happens then I would suggest contacting valve.

Pretty sure. I'm pretty certain a new key won't work either as I had recently gotten into GMOD and the default key there was acting up, but I'll test it out.

Tested using a different key yesterday but forgot to post - still have the issue.

I'll see if I can contact someone at Steam Support

Yeah it sounds like a compatibility issue between windows 8.1 and steam. Definitely a steam side issue though. Good luck.

Albeit late, but just submitted a support ticket. Hoping for the best!

Small update - Lately, or at-least the past day or so, this has been happening as well:

-Or cause the game to go into 'Not Responding' for maybe 30+ seconds (Past couple days this has been happening, and also included the Steam Client to crash but the game still 'running' until some seconds after I re-started Steam)
