PC troubles.

I have been having heating issues with my pc The processor when it gets above 50% or higher usage begins over heating. I have already redone thermal paste as well completely cleaned it out for a short span it seemed to stop it then it returned. I am concluding now that it is the heat sync or the processor it selfs going bad. Here in lies the question.

I was going to update the pc with the next windows but now I am wondering if I should upgrade right now or two buy a new heatsync and fan for the processor and wait for next year ( or 2 ) for the new windows to come out which is supposedly going to add dx12 if the rumour is true.



My spec are
i7 920 processor
6 gig of ram
2 tb ssd/hd hybrid with 8 mb ssd
6870 radeon
Asus pt6se motherboard.

Any suggestions on
 
Sounds like you got it figured out already that it's the heatsink. I say go for the cheaper fix and replace it. Get a model that'll be somewhat future proof so when you want to get a new CPU (if necessary) you can still reuse it for then.

If you can find a noctua heatsink+fan combo, I would recommend that. I installed one on my buddies computer and its dead quiet. Noctua makes some great fans. It stays ice cold too. It can keep up with liquid cooled machines with ease.
 
For a fan I would recommend the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO.. This fan is on the cheap side of things but has great reviews! I use it for my 8-core AMD processor and it has been an awesome buy so far! :thumbup:
 
Try purchasing a liquid cooling system, and if that doesn't work, get another processor.
 
If i had to get another processor id prob just buy a whole new pc board ect cuz this ones fairly aging:P. The new board fan should be here sometime next week but then i got somethings to do so prob wont get it till the following saturday. Ill update you all then on it:)
