So, the Oculus Rift Development Kit 2 is on-schedule to be shipped out next month, July. I'm just curious on if anyone pre-ordered a kit, or if they've tried out / been trying out (if you purchased it) the original Rift DK1, and would like to share their experiences with it.

I currently do not want to invest money in such an early idea, the thing is bulky and from what I understood, there is latency issues.

The idea is not early at all... Oculus rift project started like 3 years ago.

It looks bulky, but compared to other offerings, it honestly doesn't look that bad. And it's really not an early idea (well, not under a year old), as Cloaked said. It has been under development since roughly 2012, if not slightly older than that. And the second development kit was released this year, so it's already in a beta stage, at the very least.

When has it NOT looked bulky? lol

Yeah, I'm sure they plan to lower the weight and bulk of the unit for the consumer version release in 2015. I'm also interested in Sony's Morpheus, and how that would perform with the PS4. I have hopes for some more info and more showing of the Morpheus during E3 this week by Sony.

It's a new form of technology, there's a lot of things that need to be fixed in order for me to purchase it.

The idea of virtual reality isnt new at all. The technology behind the device isnt new either. Its a lot of motion tracking just like a camera would use. (i.e the kinect for xbox 360.) If anything - the only new thing that the oculus rift brought to the table was the implementation to modern day games and software for it.

Of course it has bugs. There are things to fix. But that doesnt mean its "new" technology.

It's a new kind of technology because no one has developed a semi successful product relating reality movement and video games together. It's a first of it's kind and that's why there is so much hype about it, because a new brand of controller was made (and semi working). It's the first successful product to sit on your face and view what you would normally view on a monitor. I mean sure the idea of motion capturing devices is pretty old, but for them to implement something that tracks head movement, and outputs those movements into a game where you can see it right in front of your eyes; making one of the most realistic pictures/game controllers out there, that's new.

By your definition of new; nothing can be new, because everything relates to something in the past, there for it nothing new can ever be new.
