Audio port in laptop issue

So I just recently received an HP Elitebook 8440p. Everything for the most part has been working well (with the exception of the mouse left button not holding sometimes), but not really worried bout that. My big issue is the fact that the headphone port wont recognize any jack I slide into it.

Any ideas on how to resolve this issue? Ive tried searching Youtube, but they dont always have all the answers.

... That's strange, was the laptop bought new or used? If it was previously used try looking for the drivers for that port, maybe they got lost somehow and no longer work for some reason, otherwise I think it might be just a factory mistake. If you have warranty on the laptop still I suggest bringing it back and getting a new one, you don't want to pay for something that's partially broken

Return it to the manufacturer for replacement while still under warranty. Some inconvenience to you, but if they are able to find and fix the problem for you without having to send you a replacement, win.

Unfortunately it is used. Also the driver was automatically installed. Heres the interesting thing; I bought the laptop off of ebay and found out that it was put back to factory default settings (meaning there were no wireless drivers or anything like that installed). Had to use my dads laptop to download the correct wireless driver & from there download the updates.

I am considering putting it back on ebay to hopefully getting even $$ on it & try to look for a laptop that still has a warranty intact.

Hey guys, did some research & found that some people with my laptop had this issue. Apparently, a guy said to update the bios & then update the audio driver with a different audio driver (8470w) & apparently it worked, so im willing to give it a try. However, there seems to be 2 different bios updates.

My question is which bios update to download? One is F.24 & F.13 (notice that theyre 2 years apart in version dates). Once I get a chance, I will pull up the bios in my laptop & see one I need to download. Hopefully this will fix my issue (as it has fixed other people's issues in the past).

Wow, I feel so stupid. I never even thought to check the driver. So I learned that Windows had auto-installed an audio driver (w/o me knowing about it). Thats why I had this issue. I guarantee ya I didnt really need to update the bios; just simply needed to install the audio driver (which I did). Now the audio port works like it should & this laptop be rocking!
