Time to upgrade antivirus software

What would you guys say is the best antivirus software these days? According to search details, people online are saying that Bitdefender is the #1 rated antivirus software. My software package will run out next week and like last year I am open to suggestions. Not really sure that I will stay with ESET (seeing as how much memory they take up), but we shall see...

I don't think Bitdefender will use that much less memory than Nod32 but you can download the trial and see. They are both good products, personally I prefer Nod32.

I have a license key for Bitdefender Internet Security that you can try to use but it may not work because it's tied to my account.

I've spent the past 4 or 5 years paying for Kaspersky and I shall remain loyal to them. I have never ever not even once run into issues with viruses, malware, etc. I've even tested my limits in the past with going to sites and downloading things they I knew would contain both. Kaspersky stop that stuff dead in its tracks. I've heard of various programs that are free doing good, but I personally have no problem paying 100 dollars every 2 or 3 years for the protection. I consider it an investment along with regular upgrades.

Id recommend ESET NOD32.

Using it for the past 5-6 years and never run into any issues. Its browsers plug-ins make the internet surfing and downloading way too safer

Most real-time security programs use a lot of memory. However, once Norton came out with its security-package, back many years ago, it was extremely resource intensive and most laptops and regular desktops had a hard time running it. Norton got a lot of discredit for its release. Many people changed to Kaspersky Lab or Trend Micro which was more resource friendly.

Today however, Norton has learned from its experience and changed it product in a way that I can only recommend.

I don't know the quality of Bitdefender, but I would go for a company that is experienced in its field.

Also be careful when deciding based on ratings. Sites that rate software/products, statistically over 80% are bias or bought ratings.

Bitdefender's company was founded 2001.
Symantec was founded 1982 and launched its Norton Antivirus back in 1991.
Id also look at Kaspersky Lab.

I use MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials), and I have no issues with it. I've even considered removing it because in the 18 years or so I've been using a computer I've never gotten a virus.
