Unfortunately Insurgency's time in Op:X has come to an end. As fun as the game is, it just wasn't bringing the numbers required to sustain the server at this time.

The server has been shut down as of today. Please understand this does not mean that we won't revisit the game at a later time. This also means we've opened up a slot for a potential new game to fill the void that Insurgency left, stand by for further details.

eGO had the number Five server in the world until there was a patch and the server didn't get rebooted.

After that there was a post saying it had been changed to co-op but in fact it just became a server that nobody could connect to. It looked like numbers were being tracked on a deliberately dead server to say that it had no population. I was wondering why somebody was tracking "ranking" for a server that had been broken for over a month....

Well Ruklukk if that was the case, that the server was broken for over a month, i did not see any dropbox posts for it. The leadership team can be very busy from time to time so things like the server being broken can be overlooked. Most of the leadership members play other games and such so we can't always know when a server breaks. I can only speak for myself though. I never really liked Insurgency, but i helped fill it when I was asked, then some changes in leadership happened and INS kinda fell through the cracks, but it did have constant people filling it. So I was under the assumption that everything was fine. If any game breaks due to an update, we might not know it, so in the future please fill out a dropbox post and we will be more then happy to fix it.

I just noticed this but it looks like our server was listed under INS: Modern Infantry Combat instead of the new one. Look at the banner below (the banner for our use to be ins server):

The picture on the left is for the old ins, not the new one. That could have been why no one could connect to it.

Seems like it is an issue with GameTracker. All the servers show that icon.

The reason no one joined the server is because the player base has been steadily decreasing since the launch. There are not many players left to join the server.

How ironic. I finally got around to buying the new Insurgency, and now there are about 350 servers with upwards of 30 people on at a time. Yes, many of them are empty, but I'm already seeing trending that certain servers have heavy, constant traffic, even in hours generally considered "dead."

I can't help but ask if this wasn't more of a technical issue and less of a "people" issue. How big was Insurgency back when the server was shut down?

Sorry for the thread necromancy, guys...I've been gone a while and just now got Insurgency back up and running, and seeing a bunch of populated servers and NOT one of eGO's had me confused, so I came here to find out what happened. I'm kind of playing catch-up here.

Anyone with the answers, please PM me to bring me up to speed? I don't want to sound like an idiot beating a dead horse but I also don't want to lose a game which has potential to populate a server (and be someplace I play, as well.)

The playerbase of the game has been trending downward since release. Everytime there is a sale or a large update there is a peak in player activity, but it always dies back down. When the servers were shutdown there was about 1000 peak players on. On somedays even less. The game seemed to not be going anywhere after the it's trial period within OP:X, so it was closed down. After all, OP:X tests out games to see if they will be worth supporting and putting more resources into. If a game fails to show that it is worth being supported there is not much reason to keep it around.

Also, on August 9th there was an update. This update included some new maps and other improvements. It seems like a lot of people tried the game again after the update putting the peak players up to the highest it has been since launch. But since that day the playerbase has again been declining.

Its pretty much a trend with the game as albert stated. I think once a solid admin system gets put into place, and the game gets more solid from patching. Then you will see a more steady base of players. But it also comes down to the expense of running servers that arent turning over numbers. Seems pretty pointless to waste money hosting games that arent producing.

From the ~10000 player peak last week, there's now ~2700. I suspect it will be half of that next week.

Noted. Thanks for the data. Sorry it didn't work out. I'll still be playing Insurgency, though. Looking forward to something else we support.
